Another month, another batch of SMS trouble. Sigh.

This time, with the exception of one, at random, NONE of the messages I've sent in the last 18 hours have been delivered. They are all pending. Meanwhile, the recipient (Roaming in Indonesia at the moment) has been able to send me messages (Which I can't reply to) and I've been able to call them. It confuses me even more that a single message actually managed to go through - you'd think it would be all or nothing..

Texts are very simple - why can she send yet not receive? It's worked pretty much everywhere else :(

Is this is another one of those wait for it to sort itself out things? Seems so bizarre.

It's probably some kind of routing issue which can only be fixed by the provider, you could try turning your phone off and on again so it re-registers with the network and try sending some messages again?

reconnecting to the network shouldnt make a difference. the problem isnt from his phone to his message centre, its from the message centre to the destination.
ring your provider and let them know, they might be able to see anything this side of the channel. If it is past your provider though, they won't be able to tell you anything :/

i tend to find in third world countries this is just part of the 'experience' and all the complaining in the world to your provider won't help.

These days I barely ever text abroad, easier to just call, least you know if it got there instantly.

Try sending an MMS instead, not sure if they use the same route but nevertheless its cheaper to MMS abroad than send a text :)

I am sending to +44. I've had no real issues (The odd glitch but nothing more) sending MMS over the last 2 months in more than 10 countries, including some rather dodgy ones.

It seems the problem lies with one of the networks where she is - its just a bit crap.

Thing is, O2 have a roaming agreement with two other networks in the country - listed on the O2 International site. But neither will allow her to manually connect, presumably because O2 are liars and do not infact have active roaming agreements with these networks.

Excel.

Still seems bizarre, she can send MMS as well without issue, and receive calls fine. Just not receive SMS

Obviously calling is better anyway but I've spend 10 quid on calls in the last 2 days and thats not sustainable, especially when you consider it got me a whole 2 5 minute calls ;)

Just use MMS to write messages then ?

Bizarrely messages sent from the O2 website are always delivered. Messages sent from a mobile handset in the UK, irrespective of network, have a 95% failure rate.

Things which lack logic annoy me.

email on the handset?

blackberrys and bbm are a god send for international communications

They are but not if your overseas as the data romaing charges can get out of hand if your not careful. Mind you when im in Canada i tend to latch onto my bros wifi connection with my Bold and both email and bbm work brilliantly well.
He did the same when he was here for my other brothers wedding last week...used my wifi connection to get his work emails on his Bold.
