I'm sure people never take these 20mph advisory signs to seriously, however thanks to one of the three idiots who felt it necessary to come roaring past at at least 60 (i was doing about 40) shotblasting the front on my car i now need another new windscreen. This will be the second in three weeks and another £60.

I don't expect people to do 20. But it would be nice to see a little consideration for other people's property, especially when the time saved is measurable in seconds.

Rant over, new screen comes next week.

Hang on so you are doing double the suggested speed and are moaning because someone was going faster than you?

Are you saying you have to replace your entire windscreen because of Tar?

You know that stuff that they put on country lanes and back roads? They've decided to spray a section of the A460 with it just after the Belfry.

It's actually pretty mindless of the highway maintenance people to use it on what is a very fast road, but this doesn't excuse the idiots who couldn't wait 60 seconds to get past.

Yes.

It had been laid a number of days so the skid risk was now minimal. Provided you don't follow too close you won't get shotblasted by the car in front, and most importantly if I had been doing 20mph i'd have had the whole world come screaming past and most likely need to respray the whole front of the car.

They did this on a section of a449 I use regularly, same thing happened to me (minus the broken screen, just a load of paint chips). Why do they use this crap on NSL roads, totally stupid.

The loose chippings can be really bad. I hate it that you can be taking it steady and not kicking up to many stones and then some fool flies past the other way spraying your car. It is even worse in the convertible, I have been hit in the arm and on my forehead by chippings, they give quite a sharp sting. Could be really serious if I got caught in the eye!

Between Penn/Wombourne? That stretch going round the bend past Penn Cottage was murder for weeks, sounded like driving on gravel the amount of loose stone :/

They've done this a lot near here, especially in Somerset. I went down a section that had just been done (at a guess that morning) as you couldn't get much over 20mph without it drifting a bit, almost like driving on ice. A few drivers went past a bit quick but don't think any really flicked up, but I did slow down when they were going past and moved to the left a bit.

A few weeks later another area was done but not so recent so was okay apart from the sides of the roads where the loose stones were collecting.

This way of repairing roads does take out the small holes and things but doesn't make jack difference to dips and subsidence/off camber parts as it just adds another layer.

Do you mean loose chipping? It's a cheap way of mending a road, they just spray tar down, cover it in small stones, then a fortnight later they come and sweep up what hasn't stuck down.

No, between Gailey and Penkridge, same deal though. I don't know why they did that, they have just done the Brewood road (a minor road in comparison) properly, dug up and completely re done, it's smooth as a bowling green there now.

i have been known to stop and take an alternative route (if possible) when i see this sign:

new surface jobby

just asking for stone chips :(
