Do these people get bored?

2 of the A roads out of my town have today been reduced from national speed limit to 50mph. Both stretches of road are approx 4-5 miles and have been national speed limit roads for as long as I can remember.

They're not dangerous roads, you can drive both at 60mph without needing to touch the brake.

Anyone else noticed speed limits being reduced for no apparent reason?

Yup I have, this stuff started about 2.5 years ago here (around the time I passed my test) .. utter *** as well.
One week I'm practicing on the road and it's a 60, next week I'm doing my test and they turn a section of the road from a 60 to a 40...

They also changed one of the roads from 30 to 20 round here, and a few 50 to 40 and one 50 to 30.

God I hate the local council :(

They went one worse than that on a road near here. Used to be an NSL country road, leading from Prestbury to Wilmslow. Literally in the middle of nowhere, large empty fields on either side of the road, and bar a couple of 100º corners (that were very well signed and surrounded by chevrons) it was mainly straights.

This road is now an incomprehensible mix of 40MPH and 50MPH sections, with (from what I can gather) no reason for the speed fluctuations at all (infact at one point it goes UP from 40MPH to 50MPH for one of the sharp bends).

Councils don't work well with logic.

The 2 roads can be seen here

1) A422 from about 1 mile outside Stratford to Ettington
2) A3400 from about 1 mile outside Stratford to Alderminster

I've just found the report on the local council website and it seems quite a few other speed limits have also been reduced

Similar to coming out of Stockport on the A6 towards Buxton.

40,30,40,40,30,40,30,40,NSL

This has happened on a road that links my town to the next. There are 3 main roads, and the newly imposed 50 limit is on by far the least dangerous of the three.

Makes so much sense.

All the A roads to the South of The Lakes are 50mph now. They're big long, streight, flat, and smooth.

Here and there there are parts where the trees have been cut further from the road to provide a spot to hide speed cameras.

I've noticed NSL roads becoming 50 roads quite a lot lately. It's really weird because the horrific accidents that occour on such roads do so not because people are doing 60 instead of 50.

Expect to see revenue cameras being put up shortly.

A127 in Essex, a 10mile section has been reduced from 70mph to 50mph. Specs installed along the whole length.

reason? People walking across the dual carriageway died. well DUH, they shouldn't be walking on a dual carriageway should they?

and to make matters worse, once the 50mph section ENDS, the muppets still drive at 50mph.

both of these aint got cameras so are still used at there "old" limit:
A125 40 to 30 (plus a load of islands put in and width of road reduced)
A1306 60 to 30 (plus a few islands, and cutting a lane totally out at traffic lights so its only single lane)

Loads of councils are currently going through a speed limit review which is supposed to see if limits should go up or down but so far I've only seen them go down.

Lots of national speed limits have gone around here, I wouldn't be suprised is NSL's are replaced entirely by 50 or lower limits throughout the county. I haven't seen any cameras yet so I'm still going by the old limits for now.
