Hey so any one in the Mortal online beta ?

Has to be the best idea for an Mmo in a long while and no its not like DFO at all.

Only has FPV free roam world decent crafting PvP with a clever flag sytem to discourage douche bag gankers :D

Any one in it ?

I heard its got great potential but so much stuff is broken/not finished. I will try it again but I didn't get that - wow this is amazing feel about it.

Did anyone try this?

I think "Alpha" comes to mind. Looks like its in the very early stages, with poor graphics, terrible clunky movement/combat, awful UI. This surely can't be described as anywhere near beta.

Like most MMO's, it has potential, but its at least another 12-18months away from being decent.

by then, Darkfall Online will most likely be on it's 4th expansion, I really don't see how Mortal Online is going to last another 12 months unless they start charging a monthly sub for when they plan to release it, because they're running out of dosh.

Well I think they plan on releasing it quite soon, despite it not being done yet, so hopefully there will be enough people who see the promise it has and are willing to put up with an unfinished product for them to get the cash they need.

I played in all of the stress tests and despite the aformentioned unfinishedness I actually really enjoyed it, more so than Darkfall when I played that.

Darkfall is pretty much just pvp and skilling up to be better at pvp. Mortal Online I felt had that UO feel to it where you could just head out and do whatever you wanted. I'm watching it closely and really hope the devs pull it off as its got a lot of potential.

Also there should be an open beta very soon so keep an eye on their forums for updates.

DF was full of griefers and exploiters when i played.

do you expect MO to be any differant when the game takes off?

I very much doubt it, where their is Sandbox MMO, their will be griefers.

the problem is, MO at this current stage won't attract the griefers because their are not that many people playing it.

I wouldn't say that not attracting griefers is a problem :) MO is actually quite different to DF and while it will of course have griefers (as you say any full-loot restrictionless pvp game will have them) its not as pvp focused as DF. I've played DF and didn't enjoy it but I can see why people do. MO, while less polished, is more similar to the holy grail of sandbox mmos - Ultima Online. I found it more fun than DF and I think it has more potential IF the devs manage to implement all their ideas.

Thats a very promising write up.

Hopefully they can pull it off as I really miss the grand old days of UO. The sheer scope of freedom and multitude of things to do in UO has never been matched imo.

I worry about them lasting the distance financially, but we will see. Hoping that it works out as I would love to once again experience a UO-like MMO before my gaming days come to an end.

I don't see how it has more potential.

darkfall at it's current state can handle

Ship Combat, Large scale Warfare, Land and sea based objectives, Player housing, Detailed world, Warhulk combat, City & Hamlet ownership, player sieges etc..

I really cant see, by the time Mortal Online has it's features placed in, and is released and working how it can compete to the level of Darkfall.

I'm not saying Mortal Online will be a disaster, because it has some differant features, but by the time Mortal is fully functional Darkfall will have evolved so much more.

I wouldn't trust any eurogamer reviews anymore since the Darkfall fiasco :D.

You're obviously a fan of DF, thats fine, but for me MO is more similar in terms of feel to UO which is why it appeals to me. DF is just pvp. Nothing else. In DF I can't snoop someones backpack, steal from them, tame something and command it and I prefer the crafting and skill systems in MO.

I've been in a large scale DF clan operation/siege and found it boring and time consuming. It involved a lot of standing around on the battlements waiting for something to happen. MO has a detailed world that looks a lot nicer to my eyes than Darkfall's. I'm not saying Darkfall is a bad game, its just been designed to focus on large scale pvp and very little else. Its engine and ability to handle large-scale battles is impressive but I didn't find it fun. MO could quite easily turn into a big pile of nothing and I'm not saying its anywhere near finished but it is, for me at least, going in the right direction.

I'm a Fan of Darkfall aye, but im not going to outlaw other MMO's. Mortal, at it's current stage, is not even Beta, downloading the client every time a small change was made was horrific, not being able to do a whole lot in the world at the moment is a bit tedious and the whole box art fiasco was just insanely stupid.

it's going to take a lot to make Mortal work, I just don't beleive from playing it, hearing other people's opinions and checking the updates that it's going to be in any fit state for the next 18 months.

I'm just fairly skeptical at the moment, no other game I've ever played has been released into mass alpha as fast as mortal which has turned me and many others off playing it for some time to come.

Thing is from what everyone is saying, they are running out of money fast and trying to get it out there so they can get the £ from the subs. I desperately want Mortal Online to be good, but I cant help that feel it will eventually fold.
