Mortal Kombat X

Normally the $19.99 Krypt unlock code would fall under "optional microtransaction" just like the Fatalities, but there was a patch implemented before launch that lowered the rate at which you earn tokens -- used to unlock Krypt features. Classic free-to-play model move. The $1.99 Blue Steel Sub-Zero unlock is partially justified by a "portion" of the pool going towards funding the "Who's Next Tournament," but come on -- a portion? It should be the whole damn thing when you're peddling this much DLC on top of a $60 game. At least you could say it was for the fans.

Another way showing console gaming can be a rip off, average price for this is £38/£42 yet can be had on the PC for £13!

I remember the days of the old Krypts when most things were unlocked through it, be it skins, characters, artwork etc. I'm shocked there's even an option to buy your way to completion! Each to their own but where's the sense of achievement? They'll be someone who's bought it, and even the silly easy fatalities. I can't blame them for cashing in on today's DLC trend, but it's sad to see this to be fair.

Anyhow i'm maining Kenshi at the moment, having some good games with him. However majority of the combo's i've nailed down offline aren't even doable online due to the input lag. Anyone else suffering? Same with Kung Jin, it's like playing in sludge some matches. Killer instincts netcode has ruined me.

Can't seem to agree with Kotal Kahn at all, I really want to make him work but his normals are so slow and the worst thing is the majority of his strings and launchers are unsafe on block. He's incredibly damaging so I'm not asking for amazing high/low mixups but jeez at least let me play some footsies with normals that come out at a decent speed. Anyone else had any success with him?

Sad to hear they have not fixed the online issues. I never had much interest in playing online as I suck but in this day and age and after already having a previous title you'd think they would be on top of it.

This is so bad online. I can just pick any derp high/low mix up character and race roll wins because no one can react with the lag.

The net code seems really hit and miss and opinions vary massively. Apparently the servers are struggling which may be playing a part. NRS are looking at it now.

Can you quote where they're looking into it please? It's pants it's so hot and miss.

Was looking forward to this, but reading through this thread has made me think it isn't worth my money. It is available on PC for £10 on some CD key sites. That's what it should be priced at if it is full of microtransactions to be honest.

But I wanted it for my PS4 :( Ah well, nevermind. Just another example of gaming going down the **** pan and players being ripped off and sold junk.

I think I will bide my time and wait till it is in a sale.

It was on Ed Boons twitter feed that I saw posted up on the TYM forums.

Cheers.

You're missing out on a great game if you do. It'll probably be sub £30 soon on xb1 / ps4 anyhow as most fighters drop quickly. The micro transactions are optional and they're pointless to be fair, the games far from junk it's extremely polished (ignoring the pc port) :p

Honestly, people are blowing up the microtransactions thing a bit too much.

You can buy, with real money, tokens that allow you to perform an "easy" fatality -- ie. Hold R2, press square...

... or you can not bother buying those, and instead walk up close to your opponent and press down, back, forward, back, triangle. Like people have always done.

The "skip fight" tokens (I mean, come on!) are equally pointless, and the Krypt unlock cost, well... while I DO think you don't get Koins as quickly as you should, you should be able to unlock everything by roughly the time that you've completed all characters' ladder stories, the main storyline and played a few living towers.

Essentially, the microtransactions are only there to appeal to people who either have no patience, or can't input the simplest of command combos.

You're not missing out, it's terrible online.

OK, well I apologise if I got the wrong end of the stick, but this thread reads like the game is full of lame microtransactions (which it shouldn't have at all if its a full price title imo), and the multiplayer - which lets face it is the lifeblood of any game for a lot of people - is buggy and inconsistent (IE broken)

On that basis I made the comment about it being junk. :p

I've only played one online match and it was pretty laggy.

For me, though, Mortal Kombat (in all of its previous incarnations) has always been about the local multiplayer. I never really played any of them online, as they were always saved for beer 'n' pizza nights with the mates or a night of smack-talk with the missus.

The only thing I'm peeved about is getting screwed on the Goro pre-order by Amazon. Other than that, I'm having a blast with it.
