Mosquito bites

Avon Skin So Soft

Can't say how well it worked, I still came back from two weeks camping in the Canadian Rockies covered in bites that seemed to hang around for ages. BUT, for all I know they could have been 1000% worse without the Skin So Soft, or exactly the same, who knows :)

I tried this after a recommendation.. It did absolutely nothing! :(

Proper 95% DEET seems to work for me but it's also pretty nasty stuff and eats nylon so I'm reluctant to use it as I generally get bitten while climbing and don't want my gear to get trashed. I've recently started using Smidge and seem to have had good experiences with it, a lot less bites and it also isn't as nasty as DEET.

Is pretty good for me for general use. It's basiscally eucalyptus oil rather than deet so better for skin, enviroment and your clothes.

If that doesn't work (in high humidity/buggy areas) then the 100+ Deet stuff is used, sparingly.

The Avon skin so soft stuff used to be recommended. It "worked" because it had deet in it. I believe the deet has now been removed from their formula and as such it's no us any more.

!00% DEET is pointless, and proven no more effective than those in the 30% range. 3M used to make an amazing one that lasted 12 hours. Served me well around South America.

It does in certain circumstances. It's not needed for most places with a few mozzies though, hence why it's usually sold in such small bottles.

Edit: from my own personal experience I rate the eucalyptus based stuff linked to above at about the same as the 20-30% deet formulas. When they don't work it's time to get something stronger. Probably worth pointing out you don't douse yourself in it, you use it sparingly on targeted areas. :p
