Just wondering as title which is the most active UK forums for BMW users? I'm on a few E90post.com bimmerforums and bmwland, but in general they all seem slow for responses, normally get a quicker response on here tbh.

Cheers

To be honest, this. The US forums are far more active than the UK ones.

But the US forums are chock-full of people who spend pages and pages and pages arguing/reasoning/analysing the best brand for any given part for whatever BMW that they happen to own. It's confusing for a simple Brit like myself. All I wanted was a water pump that wasn't gash, but I spent an hour going around in circles, coming to the conclusion that the only option (if I truly loved my car) was to import a Stewart water pump at probably £300 by the time it arrived on my doorstep.

Those Yanks are devoted to their cars, and by crikey do they like to spend money on them (I settled on Meyle).

And as for fault diagnosis? Sure, it's comprehensive what they have written up, but after a couple of hours reading about the potential cause of my E39's P0171 & P0174 codes, I came away with severe automotive hypochondria and a self car-diagnosis of terminal engine cancer.

They're also pretty full of BS.

Analysing oils after 2000 miles, changing diff oils every 5k, their engine oil every 3k on brand new BMWs.

I've genuinely seen some utterly ***** up **** on there at times.

It's almost as bad as some of the snake oil peddling and cable worship that goes on in the deepest, darkest depths of the online hifi community. It's like a very odd religion.

It's funny, coz it's true

The US websites caused all us early E46 M3 adopters to worry that all our engines would go pop due to bottom end issues effecting a batch of US cars only. They went into huge detail and what I find about the US forums is they are 100% sure that conjecture is fact.
