Most efficient decoder for H264?

Here they are:

Do you mean you can use the built in x264 codec of W7 in WMC? More details please :D

Win7 has everything you need to play mkv except the splitter. You can simply install the latest Haali and it should work. I prefer to use the MPC-HC matroskasplitter.ax by registering it manually as it's the only one that support mkv with HD bistreaming (latest ffdshow for this). It can be found in the MPC-HC standalone filters pack (see bledd's link).

You will need to extract the file to a location on your hard disk then open an elevated command prompt. To get an elevated command prompt simply open your start menu and type “cmd” then press ctrl-shift-enter. Once inside type the following: “C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32 FILELOCATION”, replacing FILELOCATION with the location of the extracted file. For registering x64 filters do the same except use: “C:\Windows\sysWOW64\regsvr32 FILELOCATION”.

To uninstall a previously installed filter follow the same steps to launch an elevated command prompt then enter “C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32 /u FILELOCATION” or “C:\Windows\sysWOW64\regsvr32 /u FILELOCATION” depending on the version.

I also have some AVIs so I have the avisplitter.ax registered as well.

If you want to use a different h.264 decoder in WMC then just install it and use 'Windows 7 Preferred Directshow Filter Tweaker' to select the one you want.

Anyone using MPC here's a logo I made, very simple but makes MPC look much nicer when idle compared to the stock (terrible) logos.
