Hi all,

Looking for a new PSU for my new rig I'm planning. Sandy Bridge CPU, HAF X case, single graphics card (nothing crazy) and two hard drives.

I'm thinking about 750W+ to stay in the middle (meant to be more efficient).

120 quid max to spend.

I like the look of the new NZXT PSU's but shame they only come in white, probably won't look much good in the HAF X black case?

Cheers,

Laurence

Those Enermax PSUs look really good, but they seem quite over priced in my opinion. Imean £140 for a 600watt PSU is a bit much.

Yeah, I would rather go for the Cooler Master or Corsair but I'm sure the Enermax is great though. I've had a Corsair go bang on me in the past (out of the blue :() and the RMA process wasn't great. Thinking about getting the CM. Quite pricey though.

Thanks for the info, still open for more recommendations :).

YAY! Enermax are back at ocuk!!!! :D BEST DAY!

The best psu brand in my opinion, had a 400w unit from 3-4 years ago thats now chugging along my mates q6600 pc with an 8800gt, I still regret selling my old modular 625w unit from my last pc too (would be so handy to have at some point soon) as it was silent, hassle free and perfect :)

hmm neither are gold rated PSUs and one is generic, ewww..

Don't think you quite understood the question;)

Hah even better one is not in stock.

i know iNPUt but I was sticking to the £120 budget of which gold rated ones are beyond it so i gave him some cheaper options and from looking at what he wants to do with it they would all perform above par

Thanks benj3, I would prefer to stick to the 120 budget yes, the XFC one I saw in a review failed twice in a row on the max draw test (blowing up in the process!).

While the OCUK one looks like it would be ideal and I appreciate you passing on the link I'm not so sure if I want to put a no-name (as such) PSU on this system would rather pay a bit more if I have no choice. Any other gold or silver rated ones under 120?

I was thinking they give more power while outputting less heat, normally better built too.

Heat really isn't a problem, and what little they generate gets dumped out of the case anyway. An expensive 'gold' PSU will never pay for itself in leccy bill savings unless you're folding 24/7 or something, so only worth worrying about if you want to save the planet a little bit.

You can get silver for well under your budget...

But almost everything around the £70+ mark is going to be at least 80+ efficiency, eg...

How about the Seasonic X-750.

I have the Seasonic X-650 and it's a wonderful piece of kit. They both come out top in tests, and both exceeding 90% efficiency. As a plus mine is total silent at all times (450w peak rig useage).

Agreed, I also have the x-650 and with my spec below, the fan hardly ever comes on so is largely passive and noiseless. Fully recommended. The +3.3 and +12V rails are always greater within 3% and the 5v rail varies 0-1% low. It is also a satin black colour with gold pin striping so will look good in a black case. It is modular with plenty of connectors.

In fact the x-650 will come in at under your budget and will probably easily power your new PC.

Just look into something that's gold rated, pretty much your best bet for an efficient PSU. Shame is they tend to be more pricey because of it :(

I personally quite like the NZXT HALE90 that you mentioned, but as far as I'm aware, OCUK don't stock it. Also yeah, I'd probably put it in a white case, where as it might have issues in your black one :)

But yeah, look at the three Stulid suggested if you really want maximum efficiency, otherwise as others have suggested you can get something like the Antec for £67 that's bronze rated :)

If you need gold the only option is Seasonic unless you need more than 800W or you are on a budget and then NZXT is the other option.

Considering that you won't be loading the PSU all the way to the top, there's nothing to worry about with the XFX 750W Black Edition.

Another option is the Sapphire Pure 950W model, which is based on an Enermax design and I believe has been shown to have very good efficiency. As long as it hasn't been changed too much from the Enermax unit it is based on then it would be a rock solid unit. Altho probably far too powerful for the rig that you would build...

And that leaves the Corsair HX models. 650 and 750 are both below £120, both are quite efficient, have very nice voltage regulation, ripple and noise suppression as well.
