Whats been your highest bill to pass an MOT?

Mine just stung me with a £300 one, points raised I couldnt really argue with as I kinda expected them. Still not very nice though!, I need to tax the bloody thing next.

Does involve Exhaust work though, which I had known was a big issue.

Im eyeing up replacement cars with the idea of handing mine over to my GF.

So how harsh have you been stung?

Can't an MOT be like maximum 50 something quid and then you have to pay seperate for the work needed?

Mine yesterday Landed me a bill for £520 worth of work, plus 2 advisories of an airbag and new tyre.

The bill was for 2 tires with bulges, wipers not cleaning screen fully, drop link broke..

I never have, I always make sure my car will pass before I put it in for one. I've never had a car that I doubted would pass though to be fair.

Well yeah. The failures noted in the MOT, inc pads/disks among other things have totalled £300 for me to get done and pass.

Makes me feel better :) I had an advisory on a tyre but rather than pay for a random tyre from him as a replacement, I told him to just ignore that and Ill do it myself as a pair of fronts soon.

Always someone worse off ;-)

I was quoted 350 for the two tires, but obviously wanna get all 3 all done :-( what makes it worse is last week I had only bought a new one as i had a puncture lol :(

To be honest Im disappointed in my tyres. Im sure Ive barely done 8-10k on them and one is borderline. Most of my mileage has been motorway stuff without major ragging about. Toyo T1Rs they are. Decent grip though.

I needed to do the kingpins on my hotrod for the last one. The parts were about £50 but I couldn't get the damn things out even with my BIG hammer so I had to take it to someone with a press. £300 and some reaming later...

not had the vectra give me a mot fail yet, BUT it did give me a £750 bill for parts only last month when i snapped a driveshaft and decided to go to town on a bit of an overhaul of various other bits including shocks, springs and bottom arms

Was quoted £750 for a new DPF on my old Pug 206 HDi from a peugeot stealership as it had a hole in it. 1 hour later and a bit of welding it passed at a local independant. Had to pay for the extra MOT though obviously.

I think the worst I ever had was my Starlet. It was constantly throwing up £400 MOTs; I once needed a new shock which was £131 + VAT from Toyota. In fairness, that's what happens when you drive over traffic islands hidden by snow. :(

Worst MOT for the Ibiza was £155 and that included two new tyres. :D

My last MOT+service came to £530. There was a lot that needed doing though (some cable coverings had gone, new brake pads, suspension whatnots, and a bunch of other stuff I can't even remember), but I managed to haggle it down to £499. :D

£340

Guy was having a laugh though, most of the work didn't actually need doing so I told him to bugger off, bought all the parts myself for £40, fitted them just incase and took the car elsewhere.

Fair in theory but not many have a ramp, emissions tester, rolling road brake tester and headlamp scale at home.
