Most expensive part replaced?

Erm, scraping the barrel but I had a brand new (yea, great stuff modern technology and materials isn't it) fuel float go after about 250 miles. So I replaced it with the old one I took out (servicing it, thought it might be a good idea). So that was free.

None of my 5 Triumphs have ever suffered a major component failure. Service items yes but things actually breaking, no :)

On my 96 vitty,

1 x lower balljoint -£5
A couple of coolant pipes which corroded from age - Free (dad had some copper tubing)
1 x Radiator, again from age as it was original -£60
1 x dipstick tube, again corroded from age,- £15
1 x thermostat, again from age as it was original - £8

My 88 827,

1 x brake valve, dead when i bought the car - £20

Apart from the usual consumables, not much :D

The Vitty is still on the same battery it had fitted when the previous owner bought it in 1999.

The tyres on my Jeep. $485.00 each, and I bought all 5 (including spare mounted on the tailgate).

So $485 X 5 = $2425
Mounting X 4 = $40
Balancing X 4 = $60
Disposal of old tyres = $50

Total $2575.00

Oh, and it would appear that Mickey Thompson tyres have come DOWN in price since I bought those 38 inchers.....

excluding complex parts made of many others, such as engines and gearboxes for example, the most expensive single part would be a Landcruiser alternator for 504 quid.

Not done anything more than bottom pulley on the xantia which with the timing belt was £300+ Usually I've scrapped or sold the cars when something very big has needed doing.

Not a repalced part but i had the G60 supercharger recon'd and uprated, that cost £560.

Well, engine, gearbox and consumables aside, I guess the replacement suspension, although I replaced it with coilovers, so I guess thats a modification. Clutch was £330.

Starter motors or alternators are about the most expensive bit on my Anglia at £35.

I just broke the axle on the Pop, it was free but cost me £60 to get it couriered down from Norfolk and then about £20 on top for new bushes. Damn money pit that car.

Edit: broke a gearbox once and got stung for £350 to have it replaced. Was stuck a long way from home and was young and stupid.

£90 on an alternator for the Rover. Halfrauds wanted £175 for it

I need 2 new headlamp units for the Alfa, waiting on a price on those :(

I think it was the HG on the old 9-3. It was starting to lose a bit of coolant so I took it in and had it sorted. I think it was around £300ish from the Saab specialist down the road. Thankfully it wasn't a failure so no headwork was required, just a swap.

Apart from that most things are relatively cheap as I do most stuff myself. I just didn't have the time to do the HG, so I dropped it off on the way to work and picked it back up on the way home.

I had the Flywheel replaced under warranty on me Focus TDCi - Thank god for warranty.!! otherwise would have cost me at least £1500.

Most expensive thing thats failed on the Teg in 2.5 years was the wheel bearing, cost me £10 for a replacement upright off a mate with a known good bearing already in.

Thats alls that ive had to replace thats not a consumable, although i think the radiator core is starting to seep at where it meets the end tank.

When I had the Golf Gti '99 1.8T a box that told the cylinder coils to fire packed up and caused it to run on three pots, the dealer took a day to find the fault, as the computer didn't see a problem, eventually turned out to be a plate with a chip on it incased in plastic, overall about 2" square

£500 :o

A new alternator for my focus, can't remember the price but it hurt my wallet! Damn smart charge thingy..
