Not a chance on earth i would buy a mx5 for the road for 1k, other cars offer much better value for money.
To change the roof btw your looking at 290 - 500 fitted.

Should be able to pick one up for a grand if you look around and haggle, rust shouldn't be a problem if you stick to K/L/M reg cars, they got facelifted and had bigger front brakes and an LSD as standard for those years. J plates were a changeover year so some cars won't have all of the facelift extras.
