I will be using 1920x1080 resolution in a couple of months, and might want to upgrade from my 7900GT. I currently use 1680x1050 and only games like FEAR and Oblivion have to be set to medium graphics, most other games such as BF2142 are fine at highest settings. I don't plan on upgrading my CPU/Mobo/RAM until at least the end of this year, so what would be the best graphics card to get that wouldn't be too limited by my current CPU, if i were to upgrade?

Also, would the 512MB memory on a 7900GTO be worth it over my current 256MB if it would cost me nothing to upgrade to that card?

I wouldn't go from a 7900 GT to a 7900 GTO if I were you, at least head up to a 8800 GTS (or higher). You won't get the most out of it from a stock 3700+ but it'll be enough to be a sizable performance boost (and you can always transfer the 8800 Gxx to the new rig).

Plus at that res most games become less cpu limited anyway and at 1920x1200 you're laughing... in fact a GTX may even be something you'd want!

Just go for any flavour of 8800 - you won't be dissapointed! (Edit: In fact i'd possibly even wait a month until ATi's x2900 is released as that may force nvidia to lower the price of the GTX!)

I moved from a 7800gt to my GX2 in sig and that was a massive upgrade. As the GTS is similar to the GX2 in performance i can't imagine you'd not enjoy the result! :)

I game at 1680x1050.

Very easy, get the fastest card your budget allows or you are willing to spend, you can never have too much GPU power.
