I have a wired net connection routed from my front room downstairs (where the main socket is) via two homeplugs and terminating in a switch upstairs for my main computer system and my HTPC (both connect wired)

I was wondering about getting some sort of wireless signal in my room, could i just add a wireless router to the switch and hey presto, wireless signal? or would i need to do something else?

Yes you could do that. I assume you already have a router to share the connection between your devices?

If so, you can just use any cable/ADSL router as a wireless access point. Just need to disable the DHCP server on it so it doesn't conflict with any existing one you may have, give it an IP address within your existing network range so you can manage it and plug one of the LAN side ports into your network. This will give you the wireless access point and also a few ethernet switch ports to use. Just ignore the ADSL/WAN side interface.

Or you could just buy a wireless access point. Could probably get one for cheaper, though loads of people seem to have spare ADSL routers kicking around these days.

Not going to bother about a WAP, theres a nice Linksys router in the MM for peanuts hehe
