most reliable 2tb hdd for media storage

+1,000,000 you need to buy from personal experience, i like samsung and hitachi and wont touch WD with a barge pole due to my recent failures - but this is MY opinion and everyones will be different :p

:D 2 hitachis and they were both DOA, Samsung and WD for me!

As far as 7200RPM drives go, in my experience WD drives stay quietest the longest. It took a few years for a WD drive to develop serious vibration, I replaced it with a samsung and to start with it was quieter than the WD was when new but after just a few months the samsung was just as loud as the 2 year old WD.

The extra cost of the WD is worth it IMO. Especially if your going for a WD20EARS, their not much more anyway.

After bad experiences with many different drive manufacturers over the years I just buy a pair of whoevers drives are cheapest from the big manufacturers (samsung, wd, seagate etc).. One in the machine, one in a usb caddy.
If its important data that you dont want to lose, dont trust it to just one drive. Have a backup regime thats frequency reflects the importance of the data.
Raid 1 ISNT a backup, but will protect you from drive failure (but not from being an idiot... if you mess the file up/delete it its gone.)

My HD204UI from OcUK arrived today. Manufactured in March and says "revision A", so looks like it may need the firmware update.
