I say Dell because of their warranty support and service and people like NEC and HP are bound to be good as they cater more to the premium market than brands like Benq or Hanns
Using HP here. Initial outlay was significantly more, but it has outlasted my mates' LCD/LEDs and still going strong. Therefore paying the convenience of not having to buy another.
In the grand scheme of things, it may work out the same, except instead of buying cheap regularly, you are buying expensive infrequently.
Dell warranty is second to none,as for Acer there RMA support is dire and there screens are not quality and have problems(speaking from experience with 2 different models screens) ^
Touch wood, my Samsung has been the best PC related purchase I have ever made. Had it only two years, o so much better quality than my 22" Dell ever was.
