MOT Certificates?

That little sticker thingy on the bottom left of the MOT certificate, presumabley that is supposed to be stuck to the windscreen or something? I've just got my first one of these new certificates so I'm also slightly unsure.

And is it true that the engine would perform better on the emissions test if warm/hot than if you got in and drove it from cold straight to the test station?

Thats purely for a reminder, not compulsory.

Yes, I believe the cat will work better when up to temperature.

PPM Parts per million

So a big v8 3 million bits of gas with 1 million bits that kill stuff

little 4 cylinder 1 million bits of gas with 333,333 bits that kill stuff

The v8 is bad but they both have the same efficency. If you were paying car tax then they might care about how much quanity of bad stuff your car shoves out.

Old cars have a less strict test this was before cats came in, its round about K reg 1993. The new test sometimes gives this test to newer (90's) cars Ive heard.

Do they not give the weight anymore, I'd be interested how much my (modded) car weighs

its all done on a % of the total emissions of the engine, not the actual volume of gases.

My 3 cars are all pre-1991 so can go without a CAt fitted and have a higher fail rate than the newer cars (although one has a emissions rate of over 10% when it should be under 4% )

New lamba probe me thinks!!

Yell.com your post code and local weigh bridge. Some do it for free others can charge but should tell you the weight of your car, however, the weigh bridge i used to operate went up in 20KG increments

Yes, cats often needd a good screwing before they become active.

they check the ppm for certain gasses that are in the exhaust fumes. there is a set threshold limit for this, so it is the same for every vehicle.
there's a limit for Diesels and a different limit again for Turbo Diesels.

not the same.
