darn,

thought my MOT expired on the 11th, as its got an old reminder still stuck to the windscreen, lost the certificate so I thought i'd get it done tommorow, however i've just discovered that it expired yesterday.... still booked in for tommorow but im worried whether the plod will turn up tommorow and fine me £1000 or something ridiculous... do they have any lame reminders or auto fines for MOTs? like they do with tax? :(

No.

Having no MOT is not an endorsable offence either, it MAY invalidate your insurance if you had a crash, best just get it done as soon as

Exactly. The only time you may drive a car without an MoT is for the purpose of driving it to an MoT station for a pre-booked test. (The guidelines also state that the MoT station must be a sensible distance away - i.e. no using this as an excuse to transport an un-MoT'd car half way accross the country because you have it booked in over there).

If you have an accident while driving an un-MoT'd vehicle (when not driving to a pre-booked MoT), then you will invalidate your insurance. In most cases your insurers will payout to the person you hit, but will not pay for any damage to your car. Your insurance company will then normally try to recover this money from you.

If your car is parked on the road without an MoT, then this will also invalidate your insurance, and the police *could* do something about it. This is, however, very unlikely.

Nah my friend crashed with no MOT, £5000 write off payout and £7000 third party pay out no questions asked.

For the twenty billionth time, this is only the case if you policy explicity states that driving the car without MOT will void the cover.

You'll be fine. I was 2 weeks late with my MOT - just because I wasn't in the country at the time. It really isn't a big deal especially since you're doing it the next day.
