probably another usless thread but oh well
just wandering in the states do they have MOT tests? the reason I ask is i'm watching pimp my ride (nothing else on tele) & some of the cars on there aren't worthy of being on the road!, wing & rear view mirrors missing, engine that hardly works amongst other things & the cars are still on the road.

just how do they get away with it

Nope! No stupid costly tests. Some states have a required emissions tests and a cop can pull you over and ticket you if he feels the car is unroadworthy.

I always wondered how they can have pieces of junk like that on the road too. I guess its not as strict over there.

I always wonder about those programs like American Chopper, American Hotrod and Biker buildoff. They build their cars/bikes and drive them out on the road right away, nothing like an SVA test, not even registration.

I think some states have a local regulation about the road worthiness of the vehicles, but generally it's often a case of "let god and the police* sort it out" - which is part of the reason it seems if you go from one state to another in a vehicle you might be breaking the law when you pass the state line.

*I'm not going to make any comments about the attitude of the police.

Yeah - the government shouldn't tell us what to drive. If your dumb enough to drive a cack car around and it falls apart at 80mph then it's your fault.

In turn causing an accident and killing other innocent drivers on the road that wouldn't be as stupid.

Quite. I am amazed they don't have an equivalent to the MOT test. None of us enjoy paying for the test and repairs, but most of us recognise it is necessary and desirable.

im glad we have mot testing - jsut a bit harsh you have to tow it if you dont want it fixed at the garage that did the mot - find that they just rip you off!

some of the tests in the MOT are stupid though.

 that's a new one to me. You are allowed to drive an unroadworthy vehicle home from the MOT test, and to a garage to have repairs done.

I get they don't have to take an MOT test but how can some of these people even show there faces in there cars. Tape holding things on. Remember one guy having had his door smashed in had to actually slimb in and out the car

That's alright. Just spray the car orange with rattlecans and pretend you're Bo Duke.

***edit***

Should this be in Motors?

One of them didn't have any brake pads left, just metal on metal.
