MOT Tests, beware.

Likewise, although I pay £30 my way, Last time, I was worried my tyres were illegal as the shoulders had worn badly, well below the tread. I replaced them even though they passed the MOT as they only test the main tread are. :( Crap, £220 down the drain for 2 tyres :(

That's not true. Slightly similar in some ways yes, but they are one piece cast iron and dont have a handbrake mechanism, pretty different really.

you sure on that? lined up mine with a friends the other day. looked almost identical bar the obvious handbrake mechanism. his slider pins are beginning to stick too...

my dad once marked his tyres with a soldering iron, took the car into be serviced and got it back with other tyres....

That is just so random.
Was this particular garage well known in the field of swapping tyres around?
I'm just trying to think of any reason to mark a tyre before taking it in anywhere.
Of all the things likely to happen, having tyres swapped would be near the bottom of most people's list.

So to have actually taken the time to mark it means you must have known they were likely to swap the tyres - in which case why take it in there?

Well... I took the Primera to a local place that charges around £50. Got it back with a full MOT and no advisories. The car is in very good condition but I would have expected the several chips in the windscreen as well as the condition of the rear tyres which was borderline (right on the indicators) to be mentioned in the advisory.

When I took my 295,000 mile Mondeo in for an MOT at another place (again around £50), the guy put an advisory for virtually everything. I've got it in front of me:

- Slightly long handbrake travel
- Front screen scratched (these were minor scratches caused by careless wiping)
- Foreign object in N/S R tyre (I think this was a stone?!)
- Front indicator bulb colour marginal (not yellow enough I guess)

LOL
