Hi, what kind of checks can I do myself before the cars goes to the garage, the lights and tyres are ok, but I cant think of anything else??

I assume going by your sig that you have a Focus, so rust ought not to be an issue. Not a lot you can check yourself other than the basics and fix by tomorrow. Make sure there's no dodgy knocking in the suspension, play in the steering, etc, brakes/pads look and work OK, handbrake, mirrors, seatbelts, could go on really

Ive just checked the front brake pads and I noticed this;

on boths sides only about 3/4 of the pad is touching the disc, on my old car the whole pad was touching the disc.
