Motherboard 1F Error Code...

Hi all,

I have a slight problem with a Biostar TP67XE motherboard (Socket 1155, P67 chipset). The debug LED on the board shows error code "1F" as soon as it powers up and I get nothing on the screen. All fans spin up and the power phase LED's light up etc, but it just won't boot. I've tried clearing the CMOS using both the jumper and switches and I also removed the battery for good measure. I also tried different DDR3 RAM in different slots too!

I've just been testing it with a Pentium G840 and it was previously running a Core i5 2500K until it started showing the 1F error (or it could possibly be IF?). It uses an AMI UEFI BIOS.

Anyone have any ideas what this code could mean? I've tried emailing Biostar but I know they can take a while to respond.

Cheers!

Just googled it and apart from this thread showing up there is only one other hit with the same bios code on that board. Unfortunately he couldn't find out what it was either and his last post was still waiting to hear from Biostar. I wouldn't get your hopes up for a useful reply going by what others say about Biostar.

That's odd as P67 boards don't have onboard video support and I tried booting the board with an R9 280X and GTX 780 and still got the 1F error.

Have you tried the Gpu in the other PCIE slot?

Yeah I tried and it didn't change anything :(. Biostar replied asking me to reseat the CPU and memory (no luck)... They never actually told me what the error code means (and I did ask).

I wonder if the BIOS has somehow corrupted? It has a removable BIOS chip so I might ask Biostar if they can send a new one for me to test (I know Asrock do this free of charge).

What about flashing the bios to an earlier version, then update it. Unless you can flash it again with the current version.

I was thinking maybe the bios has become corrupt somehow, but I have no way of flashing the bios as the system doesn't post/boot at all.

Biostar sent another reply saying the 1F error is CPU related and to check for any damaged pins. All the pins look perfect! I'm now wondering if the latest/last BIOS for the board still supports Sandy Bridge processors (It was released to add Ivy Bridge & PCIe 3.0 support). I've heard stories about some motherboards losing Sandy Bridge support after the Ivy Bridge BIOS update (particularly MSI).

All sorted! Received the latest BIOS version from Biostar (not even on their site) and then got the ebay seller in the link above to flash it to a new chip for me. Received yesterday from the Netherlands and the board is now working 100% again :).

Now I need to decide if I should use the Biostar TP67XE or Asrock Z77 Extreme4 in my girlfriends PC (mildly overclocking an i7 3770K).

Personally id keep the 3770k and the Z77 Extreme 4 for myself, give the p67 based setup to the other half. A 3770k is a pretty powerful cpu still.:)

Same as I posted in your Hexus thread. Keep the Asrock. It's a far better looking board, plenty of reviews with very good overclocking results too. Better chipset as well. Biostar tend to launch a board and then abandon support for it. There is only a single bios update for your board and that was from 2012. They have produced some very good boards in the past, it's just a shame they don't keep up support.

Hi,

I got this problem too. This how I sorted it:

Remove the bottom battery of the motherboard and wait 10 min and put i back again.

Then do not change anything on the BIOS. and install windows.

When your system is up-to-date and all the drivers and software install, go the BIOS and set up your ram to 3200MHZ (thiis is the max speed my motherboard can handle).

Problem sorted.

I got problems because the ASUS B550-E can only handle a max ram frequency of 3200MHZ despite the fact I got 3600MHZ ram. I didn't now this, so I change it before installing windows and I couldn't install windows. Then I tried to activate in the BIOS the DOCP and this cause the error 1F.
