Motherboard advice

While we are waiting for all the graphics cards to be release I started to plan my upgrade (new PC) as my current one is getting on a bit and is now beginning struggling with keeping up with work loads.

I run a couple of VMs off my computer while working - I also use it for gaming so was planning on getting an 9900x with 64Gb+ of Ram but I really have no idea when it comes to motherboards
I currently have 2 m.2 drives and 4 SSD's that I will be looking to move over but I would like the capacity to add more if needed.

Wouldn't a 9950x3D make more sense if you use it for gaming and productivity?

I can recommend the x870 tomahawk, am running 3 NVME drives with no compromise to the drive speeds or GPU PCIe lanes. Plus it doesn't break the bank.

It will obviously support SATA as well.

Thanks will look at the tomahawk MB I was also considering the 9950 but i was trying to keep price down as much as possible. Aiming for most bang for buck on this machine.

If you need plenty of connectivity take a look at the Asrock x870e nova.

The majority of boards have 4 SATA ports. 2 M.2 drives is usually on the cheaper ones, like lower-end B650 or B840.

If you want plenty of expandability, you could consider X670E, since it has lots of lanes and most boards have 4 M.2 slots. Since unlike X870 it doesn't have USB4 by default, it is also less likely to steal CPU lanes from the graphics or M.2 to feed the USB ports.
