motherboard cables

ok.. so ive ordered my motherboard now, and decided to go for the asus p5w dh deluxe...

but.. i want some tidy looking cables to go with it..

if the mobo comes with cables like these, someone please stop me but i cant find any pics on the web of what it comeswith...

cables like these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/IDE_Cables.html i want... preff. blue or red, but do i need anything extra for the uv ones to light up???

i have a 250 gb samsung sata II hard drive, a samsung cdrw/dvd combo and an NEC 7170 dvd writer. any more info needed just ask

PS.. what do you gues do with all your spare PSU cables

I'm pretty sure it just comes with flat cables, but the rounded ones aren't actually that much better. If you lay the flat ones out under the motherboard they are easier to hide away and the best airflow comes from having no cables on display at all.

If you really want them, then by all means buy them, but you will need a black lamp to make them glow

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Cathodes.html and I would probably have Akasa AK-178-UV 12" Cold Cathode - Ultra-Violet (CM-011-GE) or Akasa Dual UV Cold Cathodes 1 Inverter (CA-008-AK).

Do make sure you get a long enough UV PATA cable as they don't bend just as well as the flat ones and depending on the size of your case the 45cm one might not be long enough to comfortably reach the mainboard socket.

AC Ryan make a special set of cables for just such an occasion http://www.acryan.com/_roundcables/ACR-RC32011.shtml in 15cm, 30cm and 60cm lengths. They also do very short UV reactive SATA and floppy cables so you can have a more direct connection, without anything flopping about. If you buy everything from one manufacturer you can be sure of colour matching and intensity of glow (the last thing you want is one cable glowing more than the others). Akasa and AC Ryan are good brands. Sunbeam are also well known and often recommended.

It depends. If it's a special build, I might cut them off completely. Once I fitted them all neatly inside the body of the PSU itself, but they caught on fire so don't do that :rolleyes:

. Usually I hide them in the roof of the case (buy some sticky cable hooks and tie wraps to hold them in place) or stash them down the back of the motherboard.

the bottom blue one.... it says serial ata... excuse my stupidity, but will this work with a sata II hard drive?

Yes. But all the UV stuff is carp. It doesn't really glow properly unless you've got oodles of UV light and it's really dark. Buy it by all means, but please don't expect it to be too overwhelming.

No worries - I'm just trying to reduce your expectations to the point that you might be pleased when you see the end result.

The one thing I might not have made clear (and you may be completely aware of) is that only the black (UV) cold cathodes actually work with the UV reactive components. The other colour cold cathodes just give coloured light and the UV components don't do much at all.

And to cap it all, if you put a mixture of black and other coloured lights in there, the black ones are rather overcome so the UV effect still doesn't really happen.

ive given up on the idea now of the uv reactive bits...

so i just want normal lights to go with the fans i have....

Much more eye-catching then. Most of the inverters have sound sensitive modes so they flash to the beat. It was fun for about 30 seconds then I got a headache.
