Motherboard Controller vs SSD Controller

This might sound a bit stupid but, does it make a difference what controller your motherboard has compared to the SSD card.

Maybe better to use an example:

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Rev.2 has a Marvell controller on the board

OCZ Vertex 2E SSD has a SandForce SF-1200

Does this matter in the slightest?

or are you better to match an SSD that has a Marvell controller too?

They are controlling 2 completely different things so dont really relate to each other, one controlls how the data is sent from the system to the device and the other controlls how the device then allocates the data to the media it houses, in this case the sandforce controller deals with compressing the data and allocating it to the different storage chips in the drive. Between the two the data travels in a standardised format and as such it doesnt matter what chip is at either end the same data will flow between them.
