Hi my friend is building/upgrading his PC and needs cpu and mobo that will be cost effective and match the gpu which is a RTX5070 price range below £320.

Memory wasnt included the price range above, just want something that will pair well, will the 12600K get the most our of the 5070?

It'll do, but if you have the money, I'd get the 7600. This was just to fit the budget if memory was required.

You really shouldn't be cutting up budgets for parts when looking at builds/upgrades.

Ideally we need an overall price you're willing to spend, + whatever components you currently have which can carry over need to be listed to give us an idea.

What is the overall budget and what parts do you currently own, or have access to? If you already have some half decent DDR4 sat around then what Tetras suggested is a good shout, if you need the RAM you're between a rock and a hard place but are probably still better off going the same route. If you've segmented the budget for the RAM separately to the motherboard/cpu then you're probably best off with the AM5/7600, if it helps I've seen the 7600 for as little as £170 lately.

Personally, I would go AM5 either way even if it requires you to spend a little more.

These bits are from a previous build and parts already got.

Noctua NH-U12A
Seasonic Prime TX-1000
Lian-Li o11 evo
Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM 32GB 6000MHz
980 pro 2tb
RTX 5070

- Entry level b650-850 for around £100-115
- 7600 for £170

You could consider the 9600, but it fully depends on the games your friend plays. There's very little between the 7600 and 9600 on average (around 5%), but some games (sims especially) very much favour the 9600 with as much as 20-30% uplift.

Look into that and figure out which is best for his/your needs, pretty much any b650-b850 motherboard will be fine for those CPU's.

MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk, yeah I know it was a strange pairing in the first place, he's plan was always to upgrade to a better cpu in the future but never happened.
those have good VRMs so you can get any 13th/14th gen cpu.

14700k is the best all-rounder (8p cores and lots of e cores).
13600k if just gaming only

just remember to update the bios beforehand
