Motherboard/CPU Problem

I have just setup my new computer with the Asrock eSata2 motherboard, a bfg fuzion geforce 7600 gt graphics card, and an intel core 2 duo processor.

When I start up the computer, nothing shows up on the monitor and there is no beep. Now, the fans for all the bits of the computer start up so theres no problem in the power supply, and I have tried an old PCI graphics card instead of the PCI-Express and I got nothing from either.

I just need to know if it could be the CPU? Would the bios show up without the CPU working correctly? Hopefully I can then narrow it down to the motherboard.

Sorry, i mean a celeron cpu. Or an LGA 775 pentium will do. If it works with a non core2 duo cpu then its likley the bios needs flashing.

Do you get any screen up at all?

Also try the other output from the gfx card.

No, dont have any spare CPUs

Theres nothing coming on the screen at all, so i'm assuming theres no output from the graphics card. The graphics card's fan definetely starts though.

Yeh, so no screen at all. My brother has effectively the same computer (mine has a 2.13ghz processor his is 1.86ghz) and his computer sounds a small beep when it starts up but that doesn't happen here.

Would he be able to test your motherboard as a last resort?

If he had different RAM to you then try swapping that over first.

Unfortunately no, hes doing a PHD up in nottingham, not going to see him for a few weeks.

So is it more likely to be a motherboard problem or a processor problem?

Have you tried your RAM onje stick at a time, in all the slots?

And make sure that you have the 4 pin aux power plug in the mobo

EDIT : What psu are you using?

I have tried the RAM in all the slots, but its matched pairs so I have to have both, and yes the 4 pin aux power plug is in the mobo.

edit: Its an Antec NSK4400 Mini Tower Case - 380W SmartPower PSU

The RAM is compatible, DDR2, but regardless it should get to the bios even if it was faulty correct?
Not necessarily, lots of 'dead' conroe rigs have been due to incompatible ram.

What ram are you using?

If its not the CPU I'm betting on the RAM - I just built a rig based on a e6600, DFI Infinity 975X and 2gigs of OCZ Titanium Alpha XTC - powered on and got nothing, not even a POST - tho the fans spun up... whacked some value RAM in there and it boots fine - so I've returned the RAM and getting some g.skills in replacement... fingers crossed this stuff will work fine.

Unfortunatly (as its v. good RAM) most OCZ performance RAM PC2-6400 and higher seems to have compatibility issues with recent motherboards, specially 975 based boards, some NF4 and quite a few AMD AM2 boards... If it is the RAM OCZ will almost always RMA for replacement RAM even if the place you bought it from won't take it back.
