Hello. As title says I think my motherboard has finally crumbled. Its an msi z77a gd55.
My question is shall I just get another z77 board cheaply, as they don't seem to sell them anywhere anymore, or sell my 3570k + old 7970gpu and put the proceeds towards a new board with socket 1150 or 2011?

I guess Il get 100 a piece for the cpu and gpu. It would also cost about 100 to replace the broken board so that may be money better spent getting half way to a better one.

Worth?

Thanks. Iv already got my new gpu its just the motherboard that's faulty.
Yea I was very happy with it but I don't like buying old stuff it feels like a crossroad where I could just sell my old gear and step up or stick with the older z77. By selling the old cpu and gpu it might cost around 200 to upgrade but 80 to stay put.

By next Thursday, I would expect quite a few people to be selling their Z77 motherboards, due to people wanting Z170 / Skylake. Maybe check members market around that time?

3570K still a good chip, you might be able to grab a 3770K cheap if you wished to do so.

Other than that, you could go for Skylake, but the i5-6600K will be around £200 this time around, £50 for DDR4 8GB and £100 to £150 for a Z170 motherboard.

Second hand motherboard would be my choice keep posting and you soon will have acess to the members market if you dont have already, or off to the bay.

Got a lend of a mates old motherboard everything working fine again. Il probably offer him something to buy it since I won't see much gain from a 3570k @ 4.6..

Glad to hear it, when my motherboard packed in on the same CPU as yours i just did a full switch out, but it was much more worth it for me as mine was a poor clocker, since yours clocks well i think you made the right choice.

I think you've done the right thing OP.

I moved from 2700K to 4790K when my P8Z68-V Gen 3 died as I didn't want to throw more money at a dead platform and the board was just out of warranty.

In all honesty I regret not having picked up a Z68/Z77 board and carrying on. There's no tangible benefit with the new CPU, and the Gigabyte Z97 motherboard I picked up has been nothing but problematic.
