Hi chaps/chapesses

Could I please as your advice on a problem I'm having?

I'm building a system for my Missus' family which includes:

Intel Core i3 2120 3.3GHz Socket 1155
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz
Cooler master Elite 330 Case With Coolermaster eXtreme Power 500W PSU
Seagate 500GB 3.5" SATA-III
MSI H61MA-E35 (B3) Intel H61 Socket 1155

Initially It turned on and fans started to spin then turned off and repeated this process until the PSU was switched off.

Huuuge schoolboy error though that I didn't put the stand-offs in initially and had it screwed partially to the case. So I figure I've probably fried it?

At the moment I've got the mobo outside the case on cardboard with the ram
HD, Keyboard, mouse and connected to the power supply, it it doesn't start up at all now. It does power the usb though, if I set the jumper to power while not on. I've canged the other components likwe the ram and PSU for known working ones. I can't test the CPU though as I have an AMD system.

The motherboard is a bit bizarre though, There aren't any lights, and can't hear post beeps because there doesn't seen to be anywhere I can plug in the onboard speaker.

Any suggestions? Should it turn on without a monitor or should I plug one in?

Thanks

it should post without a monitor

there is usually a place where the front panel connectors are that you can plug in a speaker to hear the diagnostic tones

Yeah, there is normally, I was pretty surprised it didn't have anywhere. It dosen't have the FP2 pins some of the other boards in the series to plug in the internal speaker.

I've took the battery out and left it for a bit, and also tried the cmos reset jumpers. I don't think I'll go for an MSI board again! Can't really diagnose problems without the light and speaker.

Cheers guys, I'm going to try and send it back.

Yes, and I admitted that. Major schoolboy error! Previously the spacers have already been in the case.

I meant in that there is no light or post beeps. So either it just works or there's no way to diagnose problems effectively.

Compared to Asus boards, that have generaly not given me many problems.

If you killed the board then how is it suppost to give you an error code?

If you shoted a Asus board completly that would be broken aswell.

Well If it wasn't shorted and there was another reason it wasn't booting, it wouldn't be very helpful would it? Like in the initial stages when it was turning on and off.

It was only loosely screwed in, so its not set in stone that I did knacker it. There's power to the usbs, so some sort of glimmer of life.

You fitted it to a case with NO STAND OFFs so that is very very likley the cause.

Yes, thats been covered and I'm not proud of it.

No lights and no internal speaker does mean poor design though, that was my point.
No need for finger pointing and knickers getting in twists, hardly a very welcoming board.

I'm pretty sure it was just that they took what I said about MSI boards the wrong way.

I don't intend to lie. But yeah, its a lot of money to waste at the end of the day and justifiable by me in that there's no certainty that it was faulty due to me. If they don't take it back, fair enough. It's a life lesson.

msi boards do have light on them, and do have internal speaker... well my z68 on does so a h61 should have
defo has internal speaker connector. and bound to have lights

Quick question whilst talking about this, my pc build (not turned on yet, as not finished.) motherboard came with little felt circles as well as risers, do you need to put the felt on too or can you just screw into the riser without?
