You don't need PCI-E 3.0 even on the 79XX series.
Bearing in mind when the 79XX launched, the only PCI-E 3.0 compatible stuff was SB-E.

Ohh, fair enough. Is it just NVIDIA that utilise this then? Does the 680 even ultilise this? So gen3 isn't a big issue then?

It's not a massive issue at the moment.
PCI-E 3.0 didn't even work with GTX680 and SB-E from what I remember.

7XXX series are PCI-E 3.0 too, but PCI-E 2.0 still has enough bandwidth.

£35 is so good for a z68 board, they are great over clockers, my gigabyte board is.

With a 7850 will be top notch.

I built a system recently with a 7850, i3 3220 and a Z68 B-Grade board, I asked him to post a GPUZ to me to see if I was right.

So PCI-E 3.0 confirmed working with a Z68 board on the primary lane with the i3 3220.
