Motherboard Issue? [SOLVED]

Hi!

So I’m done building my first PC, and everything appears to be working … but I can’t enter BIOS. I can see the TUF GAMING splash, with the instruction: “Please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS setting”. However, when I press/mash either key, nothing happens. I thought it was an issue with my USB keyboard, so I switched to a PS2 keyboard – with no success. Another troubleshooting note: the motherboard’s boot LED (yellow green) is constantly on.

Thanks in advance.

My Build:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (Wi-Fi)
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB WindForce OC 3X
LG 27GL850-B 27”
NZXT H710 ATX
NZXT Kraken X53
RIOTORO ENIGMA G2 850W 80+ Gold
Seagate 2TB BarraCuda Internal Hard Drive
WD Blue 1 TB M.2-2280 SSD

P.S. all fans are spinning, and the motherboard RGB is on.

In your monitor OSD trying changing the DisplayPort version from v1.4 to an lower version.

This mobo by default uses an signed GOP VGA driver to meet secure boot requirements (CSM disabled).
But if your graphics card is missing that requirement it can result in an blank screen after the initial POST.

Lowering the DisplayPort spec version or using HDMI is a workaround.
But the primary fix would be an VBIOS or DisplayPort firmware update for your graphic card.

*You won't get a signal from the mobo DisplayPort as your CPU does not have an integrated graphics chip.
*CSM (Compatibility Support Module) is a component of the UEFI firmware that provides legacy BIOS compatibility by emulating a BIOS environment, allowing legacy operating systems and some option ROMs that do not support UEFI to still be used.

I tried disabling DisplayPort 1.4, and then using an HDMI cable, but there’s no change.

The screen isn’t blank post-POST; the TUF GAMING splash is constant, as is the instruction (to press DEL or F2). To a novice like me, it seems as though my keyboard isn’t working (though both the USB and PS2 keyboards light up).

Hmmm might not be that then.

Try removing the M.2 SSD and seeing if you can enter the BIOS then.
The yellow/green LED does indicate an boot device problem, maybe we should have started there.

Failing that try an CMOS clear by bridging the two jumper pins.

I just cleared CMOS using the jumper and the battery (I had to remove the GPU to access it). Now, along with the constant boot light, the VGA LED is now lit. It's a comedy. :D

Just checked to see if the GPU was improperly positioned, but it ain't. No idea what could've happened.

Per your suggestion, I tried removing the M.2 SSD without success. Re: CMOS clear, is that advisable while the system is running?

No progress I’m afraid; I’m going to disassemble my system and put it back together again … perhaps there’s something I’ve missed. I’ll update you afterwards. In the meantime – thanks for your help! Much appreciated.

Hi again,

So… I set up an open bench, reset and reseated everything: alternated RAM sticks/slots; moved GPU to the second PCIEX16 slot; reset CMOS via its jumper and its battery; attempted to boot via the HDD alone, then the SSD alone; applied a touch more thermal paste; tried HDMI/DisplayPort slots; a USB keyboard and a PS2 keyboard … and no change. Well, I’m back to where I was. The VGA LED is no longer lit, but the boot light remains my Northern Star.

The TUF GAMING splash screen appears, but I can go no further, no matter how violently I mash DEL or F2.

What’s next? :D

So you have physically removed your m.2 and SATA drive and you still cannot get into the BIOS?
That would rule out an inaccessible / faulty drive causing an POST hang.

You could try a BIOS recovery flash.

Just stick the latest BIOS file onto the root of an FAT32 formatted memory stick and plug it in and power on.
Just after post it should auto detect the firmware and auto launch the update utility which is located on it's own area of the BIOS chip.

No hitting DEL should be required though. :)

Hi!

Apologies for the late response, but life's been quite strange, recently.

My PC is now working, thank God. The solution was: I disconnected both my SSD and HDD, which allowed me into the BIOS menu. I then reattached my HDD (as my SSD wasn't cooperating) and installed Windows (onto the HDD). From there, I updated BIOS / motherboard drivers, before booting Windows from my flash drive again. This time (after updating), I reattached my SSD, installed Windows onto it, and everything worked as it ought to have.

It seems that it was solved via updating the version(s).

Thanks once again for your help, @The Old School Gamer!

Hi all!

So, today was not the best. I just build my new working PC. Ryzen 5800X and Asus x570 strix gaming mobo. After 3 hours work with the build, the PC can't start. The 5800x is a new cup, I think the mobo didn't hold the newest Bios. Okay, USB stick, top fresh Bios, update and few Q-Led error (Dram and Boot). But I got the Bios load screen. Cant continue with F2 or Del, just stuck on this screen. Tomorrow I'll try the wrote method and post the result.

Hey there!

New to the forum here

But I'm currently am facing the same issue right now and was wondering if you were able to find a way around it?

Tried disconnecting my HDD and all of the necessary actions that was brought up earlier but still to no avail.

I haven't resit the m.2 yet but I'll keep everyone posted.

Hi,
Did you end up fixing your issue?
I have the same issue with the 5800x but with the b550i strix mobo.
I hope everything worked out.

Yes. There was a little noob fault with the Bios update process. As I read again the method ( turn off the pc, plug the USB stick with the newest Bios, and Push the Bios update button) it was worked well. So, just try update correctly the Bios and it will be working...I hope :)
Happy new year to all here!
