Hi all,

Having a strange issue with my motherboard/GPU. I upgraded from a gtx 760 to an rx 480 last night. The gtx 760 was working fine in my primary pcie slot (3.0 x16). My new rx 480 however only works in the secondary slot (2.0 x4). I am not entirely sure how much this affects performance (not an insubstantial amount I think) however my rx 480 is now only an inch or so from the PSU so i imagine temps will be adversely affected as the fans have very little room to draw air in. The following is a list of things I have tried to remedy the situation:

- reseat the GPU
- fresh install of windows
- clear cmos
- update motherboard bios
- check for faulty GPU by trying in another PC (it worked fine)

My motherboard has a system browser which shows you what is currently plugged in to it. At no point has it recognised the rx 480 in slot 1, it only recognises it in slot 2. It does recognise my gtx 760 in both slots though.

System specs:

- asrock z77 pro4
- evga bronze 500B psu
- i5 3570k
- 8gb ddr3 1600mhz
- 500gb Samsung 850 evo
- 1tb western digital hdd
- generic sound card (mediatek chip I believe)

Any advice to get my rx 480 working in slot 1 will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

TL;DR - old GPU works in PCIE3 slot, new GPU won't, new GPU works fine in different PC
