Motion Sickness - what helps?

I have never had it, but when I downloaded and started playing GH3 I was nearly sick! The menu was moving really wierdly - Does that happen in the full game? It put me off buying it...

yea in guitar hero 2/3 if you stared at it for a minute then looked at the wall in your room/living room or anywhere you'd see like a vortex circle lol moving about its weird :p
didnt cause any kind of sickness.

wow got up to so many replies to this thread, right to answer a few comments or questions.

somone suggested a smaller tv, however i play on my monitor 22" widescreen belinea, i have had this effect before playing the xbox (1) on my 42" plasma, i dont play on any other screen just my pc monitor but i have experienced it before on other tvs and monitors.

drink water, dairylea triangle, lick salt and chew lemon are these suggestions tried and tested by anyone :D

FOV what should this be set to in a game as cod4 or hl2 ?

i cant up my refresh rate my monitor is 60hz

i could turn off motion effect on cod4 but i got as far as the bit near the start wehn you drop down a rope and run about thru rooms test shooting targets, still in practice.

i did get most of the way thru HL2 but just stopped playing i did feel sick at times but i must have got used to is the more i played it.

i also dont travel too well as a passenger, if i read when travelling i get sick, i get sea sick on a boat if choppy, i feel sick after spin about rides at fairground, so im kinda prone to feeling weird thru motion. also one i was on one of them simulator things at the pleasure beach and i nearly thru up inside :D

I got it really bad playing Halo 3 on my mates 50" sony projection TV. was awful for about 10 hours, i had to turn down a night on the lash because of it :(

Th only time previous was playing secret weapons over normandy on the xbox on a 21" crt, got a sore neck too playing that.

Have you had your eyes tested recently - not sure if it could be the cause of motion sickness, but will almost certainly be the cause of headaches. I used to work as a DTPusing a 21" monitor and I got awefull headaches untilI had my eyes tested and found I needed glasses for VDU work.

I get it sometimes, after a massive game spurt. I just have to take a break for a while, do some exercise and drink lots of water, come back to it. After a while i've got better and can go about 6 - 8 hours of gaming quite easily.

I can remember when I got GH1 for Xmas a couple of years ago and after playing the first few songs I looked out the bedroom window and all the neighbours garden fences were rising into the air :)
