Motivation Problem

Right, I'm at uni doing a course that I am enjoying immensely (Computer Games Development).

That problem is that although when I'm actually at uni I get the work done, now I'm home for Christmas, with 4 courseworks on the go, I just can't seem to find the motivation to finish them properly. I have no idea whatss wrong, but everytime I start I just quit halfway through and go do something else.

Is there any way I could try and overcome my motivation problems, since I WANT to do well on my course, and I still find it hard to sit down at home and work :(

I have that trouble with my GCSE IT Project 2 - waaaaay too long, but probably not that long compared to what you're doing. I found the way to get through it is do half an hour of solid work on it, then five/ten minutes of something you enjoy, so you don't get bored of constant over-working.

Tried that, my 5-10 miinutes ends up in me not doing it again :(

Give yourself something that you love LOADS when you finish it, so you're working towards something that you get straight off, rather than having to wait ages for, and that it's something worth doing all that work for.

Just sit down and get it done!

If there are distractions, remove distractions. Go to your local library and do it there, or lock yourself away from the internet and get on with it :p

2 problems :)

Need to do most of it on my PC, due to the osftware and stuff I need to use.

So I cna't go to the library or block the internet :(

Get a Don to ban you for a week.

You'll get bored and end up doing the work.

I'm sorry but if you need to be forcefully removed from an internet forum in order to complete coursework then you have serious problems which are far deeper than motivation - probably personality problems :p

Just get on and get it done. One less thing to worry about that way. Everyone is in the same position, I had a lack of motivation in my final year but you have to push your way through it. No one else is going to do it for you.

Well, first you gotta stop smoking the happy herb :p

Like everyone else said dude, just sit down and do it. I get agitated when I feel I'm not getting anywhere with a project then end up wasting loads of time... but if you just put your head into it without thinking "Oh I'll do this first" or "Oh I'll do this in a minute" you can end up spending ages on it then wondering where the time's gone :)

You need to make yourself bored enough to find the work interesting. To do that you need to stop browsing forums, playing CS etc.

I'm a master at motivational problems so I know the feeling, turn your computer off and go and literally do nothing or do housework for 10minutes or however long it takes you to feel bored enough to want to do your coursework :D

Get rid of all the distractions and make a cup off coffee/tea and sit in front of your work. Usually works with me. (Says me with lager + laptop instead of coffee + revision  ).

I Have this exact problem, only im not massively enjoying my Uni course. Computer Systems Engineering, its VERY heavy and intensive compared to all the other courses i've seen, which is annoying in itself. I find that i'm not motivated to do any work until the last possible moment when im motivated because of fear :p .

For instance, i to had four assignments in before christmas (greatful for that now!), all due in on tuesday the 12th of december, i started them sunday the 10th. Probably not the best of ideas but hey i got them done but it did involve 2 days at uni doing 0900-1930 (latest our labs with MARCO is open) and then a nother 4 or 5 hours at home. Mass effort but hey i got it done, but it was only because it was due in pretty damn soon.
