Press release on Alex de Angelis serious crash in FP4

MotoGP medical director Michele Macchiagodena has confirmed the full extent of the serious injuries suffered by Alex de Angelis during fourth free practice for the Japanese Grand Prix, which includes multiple rib and vertebrae fractures, as well as a lung contusion.

The Sammarinese received lengthy medical treatment at the side of the Motegi circuit following the fall from his Ioda machine, with the team later confirming 'numerous fractures'. It also said he was conscious and talking as he was extricated.

Airlifted to Dokkyo Hospital in Mibu for treatment, de Angelis has undergone a CT scan, which has diagnosed a lung contusion after preliminary analysis. Furthermore, he is confirmed with several rib fractures, fractures to his T7-T8-T9 vertebrae, a body fracture to L4 and trasversal process fractures to T2, T4 and T8.

Also suffering a head concussion, the Macchiagodena says he will need to closely observed in the coming days to ensure his condition remains stable.

"There's a thoracic trauma with bilateral ribs fracture, on the left and the right. He also suffered a head concussion - the CT scan doesn't demonstrate any damage or bleeding but it still requires to remain under observation for the next days. However what needs more attention is the fact he sustained a lung contusion - we'll have to monitor it closely to make sure it doesn't lead to restricted breathing or any kind of infection.

“The early checks also report 5 fractured vertebrae, from which three seem to affect the body of the vertebrae - as of now there's no neurological damage but we'll have to make sure those fractures are stable so the medulla isn't affected. For now it needs to be observed closely in order to determine if surgery can be avoided." .

Get well soon Alex

Josh Brookes (BSB Champ)take on it
VR's race was already penalised by having to deal with MM. Points should be left. Race direction shouldn't be deciding the champion

MM was riding like a **** to block VR. VR gave him looks of warning & MM didn't accept. You try ride on outside & catch, it's what happens

Some cynics might say that it was MM's decision to engineer the fall, knowing full well that VR would be severely reprimanded, thus effectively ruining his Championship. Is it plausible to think that such an event could actually happen? I doubt it, but everyone was so adamant that Rossi kicked out, and made him fall.

If Marquez had not fallen, it would have been a slap on the wrist for both of them, and we would be going to Valencia with VR having every chance of securing the 10th title. But that is the chance you take. There is no doubt in my mind that MM fell because of his own actions, though this was due to VR giving him the opportunity to do so.

I do hope that both Ryder and Huewen make an apology for their outbursts, as Rossi was already guilty of kicking MM before they even had a chance to look at all the evidence. Poor broadcasting from both of them. Perhaps it's now time to bring in Moody and Nick Harris for these two plums?
Nick Harris you got to be joking, he talks the same now as he did in the 80s, just the names of the riders have changed, his scrip is always the same

Rossi stuck his knee out and that was it.

Everything that has been said by Honda is wrong, however Rossi has stated that the handlebar (brake lever?) dug into his thigh... so could this be what Honda describe as Rossi kicking Marquez?

Must have been the bar, as the Brake lever has a guard to stop the brake catching another riders handle bar or parts of the body.
That's why the guard was a mandatory fitment to all racing bike a few years ago

Lorenzo is lucky not to have been fired from the team to be honest...

Thumbs down for your team-mate! is never going to go down well with the team or sponsers...

Lorenzo is an ambassador for Yamaha in Indonesia and after his show of lack of respect on the podium, the Yamaha fan club have asked Yamaha to remove Lorenzo from that post, they really don't like him in Indonesia lol
