Motoring pet hates

It only used to be Volvos which had ridiculously high intensity brake lights.
I've noticed now though that most of the large saloons with LED lights are ridiculously bright and burn my retinas. It is quite annoying.

You don't have to stare directly at them for it to be uncomfortable and annoying.

Think the e46 facelift coupe started this trend as they're blinding if you're behind me.

I mean them :p

I've read the entire thread and I cannot say that I find any of that irritating. Certainly not irritating enough for me to remember it now and definitely not enough to get into a blind rage behind the wheel.

Why does driving seem to make otherwise rational people foam at the mouth?

If I am in lane 3 overtaking slower cars in lane 2 and someone comes hooning up behind me I will observe that they are there in the mirror and then proceed to complete my overtake exactly the same as I would have done had they not been there. Their flashing lights and wild gesticulations do not affect me even slightly. My day is not ruined, my journey is unaffected and my heart rate remains at rest.

I absolutely cannot fathom how that would wind someone up?

I guess this thread is full of picture perfect drivers?

Does an inability to accept the shortcomings of others reflect a level of ignorance toward their own?

Tailgaters on motorways seem to really get me recently. I'm on a motorway, sitting happily around 75 (only a 1.1, so not wanting to push it), in the very left lane. Some cretin in a Ford Galaxy (2 late twentyish looking guys driving) comes right up behind me, probably less than 2 foot off my bumper and just stays there.

Probably not a good idea, but I decided to mess with him a little, slowed the car down to 50, bare in mind the right lanes are pretty blocked meaning he can't move over. Forcing him to sit there, once he goes to overtake, I just carry on back up to normal speed, as it happens, he can't get past in time and has to pull back in behind me.
(Yes, I know, not a smart/clever thing to do, and I'll probably get flamed for it here, but he was just being annoying, and it was fun).

Am I the only one that gets rather miffed at people entering junctions when they're clearly not going to exit before the light goes red?
Why the **** should I have to sit through another phase of the lights through their selfishness?

Whilst stupid, is it wrong to knowingly have an accident which could have been prevented if you had taken evasive action even though you had priority?
I'm sorely tempted, partly due to the completely inept driving standards over here, and partly becuase I'll probably get more for my car than if I were to sell it... :o

My biggest pet hate at the moment.

People who pull into petrol stations but sit at the entance so they can see which of the dozen pumps comes free first saving themselves all of 30 seconds, mean while making the rest of us sit in the road causing a jam.

Happens all the time at my local tesco petrol station, I've taken to going round them.

People who don't understand junction boxes.

People who don't/can't check roundabouts on the approach, thus resulting in them stopping dead at a completely empty roundabout instead of just joining it.

And many more, but those are my two main pet hates.

Yea they get on my wick as well, worse than Tesco is when you end up stuck on the main road trying to get in the petrol station.

When someone threatens your life does that not upset you in the slightest because that's what these idiots are doing?

There's a reason for leaving a safe braking distance between yourself and the car in front and it's not unreasonable to expect the car behind you to respect that distance too.

I'm sure the car in front of me would appreciate my not piling into the back of them and injuring/killing them in the event of an accident occurring ahead of us, but if I've been killed by the tailgater behind me I'll not be around to accept their thanks for my considerate driving and this , quite reasonably in my opinion, upsets me.

and my personal pet hate is those drivers who always have to get ahead of the car in front, no matter what the traffic conditions or how far away from the turning they'll make (usually 100yds after the queue jumping overtake).

No, I just have an ability to perceive the world rationally.

Some rational statistics for you, and yes I too was amazed to find out that people are actually injured and even killed on roads whilst driving cars. Shocking but that's the real world for you.
Obviously none were killed by bad drivers since in your rational world there aren't any of those.

That doesn't make it rational to view someone driving a bit too close behind you as threatening your life, it's not like they've just pinned you to a wall and pulled a knife is it? :/

So it's absolutely perfectly safe to tailgate at speed and all that rubbish about safe braking distances and reactions times is irrational nonsense?
Fair enough :)

and yes good example, they haven't pinned you to a wall and pulled a knife, but maybe they're a few seconds away from pinning you in your, potentially, burning car (not that cars EVER catch fire or trap people inside them lol!).
I do wish the world was how you perceive it as then I'd not ever have had to go to any hospitals or funerals and I'd still have my rose tinted specs (and 3 more living friends than i currently have).
