Motorola Milestone

My battery life is miles improved since rooting and overclocking! Not charged since I did it and still have 20%. :D

Which guide are you following Minx?

I followed several guides and none of them worked as they did not involve flashing a stock rom first.

I then found and followed this guide which means you flash a stock rom first then the vulnerability SBF and it worked without hitch.

I used the stock UK SHOLS_U2_02.31.0 rom to flash within RSD first, then flashed the vulnerability SBF, then applied the update.zip.

I was using the quide from the previous page, but il give this one a go.

cheers

Yes it will as you are flashing a new rom.

Why not just sync them with Gmail or copy to your sim-card though?

Then as soon as you sync to Gmail the first time it will pull them down automatically or read them from the sim-card straight away.

There is absolutely no need to flash your phone in order to root it. Flash the vunerable SBF update and then run update.zip. I kept everything intact when rooting!

I have tried that.

And when i try to run the update.zip, it tells me the file is missing

Then it has not been put in the correct directory. Is the milestone in SD card access mode USB wise? You might be putting it on the actual phone rather than the SD card.

Which is exactly what was happening for me until I'd flashed the stock rom first.

For apps I just Sync my installed apps with AppBrain then re-sync once I'd rooted it which then just installed all my apps again.

Sorry minx I'm all out on ideas

As I said before, I was getting the same error as you until I'd followed the guide I posted above.

Have you tried to get the update.zip from a different source just be sure that the one you have is not corrupt in anyway?

Erm i havent actually, that might be worth a try.

Ive tried the way you posted, but the rsd lite doesn't show the SBF which you flash with first :/

What d'ya mean by doesn't show? I presume you have downloaded the correct .sbf (stock rom). Its around 156mb and can be got from here.

You need to scroll right down to near to about halfway down the page to the 2.1 section and get the UK SHOLS_U2_02.31.0.sbf.gz.

You then need to extract it from the .gz folder its in (to your desktop perhaps) which will then give you the .sbf you are wanting.

Just followed what you said, flashed it with shols, then the sbf, went into phone, tried to run the update.zip and says failed still :/
