Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

Just how bad is the camera on this phone?

My wife needs a new phone and was considering the moto g (4g version) versus phone like the experience m2, and s4mini. I think the moto g has the best screen, but the reviews all state the trade off is a fairly poor camera.
She is coming from a galaxy s2. She won't be taking a lot of photos, but when she does it would likely be things she wouldn't want marred by a poor camera, for example photos of our children.

I presume the nexus 5 camera is a step up from all these mid range phones? I was wondering if it might be worth pay the extra ~£100 just for a better camera.

It's worth spending extra on something else if the camera is super important.

I have an S3 and my wife's MotoG pretty soundly beats it on virtually all fronts... except the camera.

Yeah, the camera is perfectly acceptable in good light but if you want to take any images/videos to keep and potentially treasure then I'd look elsewhere. Especially low light images where the G struggles even more.

TBH, when I decided on my S3 a year back I could have also had an Xperia Z at a similar price. The Sony offered a larger and higher res screen and much more power but the samples on review sites showed how much better the S3 was at capturing both still and moving images so it won out since that was a feature that was particularly important to me. Never regretted it either! :)

100% speaks the truth!

I got my Moto G the other day and sadly had to return it due to a contract issue. In the time that I had it, I was able to update the software OTA to 4.4.4. My replacement however has not given me that prompt yet and when I try to manually hit check for software updates, it tells me it is unable at this moment and to try again later. The lady at Motorola says this is fine and that it is because the update rolls out in stages. Any thoughts on whether my software update tool is broken or something?

Bought a Moto G 4G to replace my non-4G that I thought I'd lost.

Love having a brand new phone again - battery life had reduced by a good 30% in 8 months by the looks of it. And the new phone has a considerably better wifi ability, for some reason. Whereas I could connect to my wifi in one single place in my house, the 4G phone picks it up almost throughout (albeit weak, but usable)

did anyone update in the last few days?

I got offered an update clicked yes but the window disappeared and it never happened.

I assumed it was because my battery was only 40%, but any time I try to force an update it just pops up searching for update for a split second and then disappears :S

Picked up the 4G model in white today. Loving it but only issue I'm facing is that I like to listen to a lot of music with Spotify so it does take up a lot of space on that 8GB internal memory.

Is it possible to use a micro SD card to expand the internal storage, so not only will you have more space for media, but also for apps?
