*** MOTOROLA RAZR ***

Well a week into owning the Razr and not much to complain about. Battery outlasts the wifes SGS2, and we both feel the Razr's screen is better. SGS2 is touch more comfortable in the hand though.
Only niggles I have are my car charger won't charge it and no screen protectors yet. Waiting for docks to come into stock somewhere now.

Finally got mine yesterday and I'm very happy. Massive improvement over my 18 month old HTC Desire. Battery life seems great, Fully charged at 8pm last night and then I had 3 hours heavy use with the phone almost constantly on. Slept for 8 hours and then another hour of heavy use this morning and I'm on 55%. Haven't really setup any smart actions yet either.

Two small problems I have to mention:

Disappointed there was little to no control of the notification LED so I had to download Light Flow.

The wi-fi reception seems quite poor compared to my Desire, for example I would have always been able to get a weakish wi-fi signal in my garden but not picking up anything with the Razr? Even quite close to a router in work and its barely getting a signal whereas the Desire was strong and constant?

What's the mobile signal like in comparison to the desire? Am thinking of upgrading from my iPhone 4 fany going back and I like the look and features on this phone

Mobile reception is not worse than the desire. My area has pretty poor reception and I get 2 to 3 bars on both phones. 3g signal seems better on razr though.

Also, I've had no noticable wifi problems.

Only issue I've really had is the alarm staying silent this morning. Was definitely set, but it didn't go off (was already awake luckily), about 45 minutes later there was a notification telling me the alarm automatically silenced after 30 minutes.

Text entry is also fiddly but that just might be swype.

Scratched my screen today, quite a nasty one too, about half an inch on the side. Well ****ed as screen protectors arriving today. No idea how it happened but Gorrilla glass is rubbish.....

Gorilla Glass (or any other toughened glass for that matter, such as what is on the iPhone and Galaxy Nexus) isn't indestructible.

Aware of that but it not like I was trying to scratch it. It's the quickest I've ever scratched a phone. Wife's just phoned to tell me my screen protectors have arrived........

if it scratched as bad as you say it did not sure if screen protector would have made much differance. :(

thanks for the update on the reception.

If the scratch is deep and nasty then it can only have come into contact with something harder, and with more force then usual, for example pocket with keys or something metal in your pocket, or have been put on a rough surface and scraped. I would only put that down to carelessness.

I put it down to bad luck. I was in a pretty clean environment all morning. Expected a scratch eventually but not this soon.

Coincidently the Gorilla Glass on my wife's Defy didn't hold out long against a very determined teething baby. That poor phone had it rough ;)

But Gorilla Glass is marketed as if it is, that's the point. Seems to be pretty hit and miss with how people fare with GG... for example:

FartInferno, can we get some pics of the scratch please/

Cheers,

Su

It shouldn't be because then there'd be claims of false advertising. I don't think any of the marketing claims that Gorilla Glass is indestructible.

Gorilla Glass is just strengthened glass, you can scratch/shatter it, but not easily.

It's more shatter proof than scratch proof really, I don't think it has ever been marketed as shatter or scratch proof, but 'resistant', which it is to some degree.

Even the non Gorilla glass screens are very hard to scratch (like those on the iPhone 4/4S), you've got to be really careless to scratch most modern phone screens.

Screen protector covering it now, so not so noticeable. Never thought GG was indestructible, just ****ed I managed to get it scratched so soon.

In other news.... Mobile reception and Wifi signal is worse than sgs2. Typically the wife's sgs2 has 1 more bar and her wifi is definitely snappier. Although they both speedtest almost identical scores.
Battery life seems to have settled at a typical day being 15hrs rising to at least 48 when on wifi only.

bars on a the wifi meter are not the best indication to wifi strength - different manufacturers have different calibrations.

Wifi Analayzer is a good app that shows db levels.

A tiny spec sand or grit in your pocket is enough to cause a scratch. Put a grain of sand on your finger and lightly rub it against a Gorilla Glass screen and see what happens.

I can attest to this. Put a nice wee scratch on my GS2's screen after going to the beach in the summer with just one grain of sand.

If you use force, possibly.

If you look after your expensive phone, the chances are you won't scratch it.

Having never scratched a screen on over 30~ different smartphones, you aren't going to convince me it's easy unless you're careless. Plenty of people are very careless though, so maybe screen protectors are good for them.

My dad has a tiny scratch on his iPhone 4, and he got that from putting it in a toolbox with a load of drill-bits... :o You'd still never notice it though.

I'm very careful with mine but still managed to get a scratch on my Desire when gently removing it from my pocket.

No need for force, with anything like sand (anything "harder" than glass: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scratch_hardness#Scratch_hardness and particularly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale) it only requires a tiny amount of force to scratch.
