Motorola V3r problems

Trying to change my 3 sim card over to a Motorola V3r. When I fit the card to the phone, I am greeted by a message asking me to "CHECK SIM" and "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY". The phone works fine with my Virgin PAYG sim. Could it be the phone requires unlocking?

Well, thats the assumption I was working under. I had a really good search around to find a means of unlocking the phone, even tried a few tools - but to no avail? Is there any way I can do this myself?

afaik its a 2g phone and won't work with a 3g sim, sorry.
