MOTOROLA Xoom or Archos 101G9 turbo

good to hear ! regarding the playing films through a tv , does the xoom mute the volume when you plug it in via hdmi so you can alter the volume on the tv ? , or do u have to listen to the volume on the tablet when watching a film ?

Nice one, been to look at a few tabs in CPW today ,tried the xoom the galaxy tab 10.1 and the sony tab, xoom did feel quite heavy but no more heavy that the galaxy tbh, screen did seem abit reflective but didnt stop you viewing the home pages properly

was tempted by the galaxy tab because my mate has one and he spend the morning selling me on it till i found one you have to buy all the accessories for the hdmi ,sd cards and usb interface, its about 30 quid for the hdmi one alone ! so doubt i'll be buying that tab lol

If the Samsung had expandable memory I woulda got it due to the superior screen, however, the xoom outshone it on functionality

For me the Xoom comes into its own due to the phenomenal user support. I bought mine yesterday and powered it on to get into the settings and then within one hour I have unlocked it, installed CWM and then installed a ICS 4.03 ROM.

I will no need to sell my Advent Vega, although that too has been a great tablet made even better by the modding community.

Here you go...

I just unlocked it.
Installed CWM.
I did NOT root it (as I was installing a custom ROM)
I then installed [ROM][Nightly][ICS] Team EOS(Tiamat)(Motorola Xoom Wifi Only) build 81
I then installed GAPPS.

Then all was well with the Xoom :)

A rather good thread can be found here...

(I contributed at the end of the thread (Dibbles))
I used post number 2 but I did not use version 1.00 of the EOS ROM I used the much later release of the nightly build 81

I had downloaded the CWM to use from here...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979

The Xoom, imo, comes into its own when flashed with a good ICS ROM compared to when running HC.

do those micro USB OTG cables work ok on the xoom ? and if so has any one tried using a 3G USB dongle on a wifi only tablet ?

just and update, unlocked, installed cwm and waiting for gapps and EOS rom to download now (altho it going very slow ggrr)

i found it pretty easy to follow the xoomforums guide vimes posted (thanks for that!) ,im halfway there now :)

make sure you get build 83 on the EOS ROM, it has a lot more fixed than version 1.0.

you're welcome btw :)

I looked for 83 build but couldnt find it , u got a direct link m8 ?

ive already got 1.0 on it now so whats the process of installing an update ? will it wipe all the apps ive just installed ?

just as i install 83, 84 gets released lol

I bought a copy of Titanium Pro from the market. That has been worth 10x more than its cost for what it has done for me in backing up all my user apps and games for both my Xoom and phones.
It has been one of those apps which is a must buy :)

You can just download build 84 and go back to CWM and wipe your cache and Dalvik cache ONLY and then install build 84 AND then the GAPPS and reboot. It will then have all your apps in place and get the goodness of build 84.

I know that you have updated but the above procedure will do you fine for the next update or two.!

Enjoy :)

its mainly the bookmarks from the android browser im trying to save, all my apps just redownload when i log into market so thats not an issue atm

will try your suggestion next time tho vimes :)

lol

Yes I tried 90 on its release and all is well with it. With the 4.0.4 releases they seem very stable and everything that I have tried works a treat. The only thing that I noticed is that, for me, the Youtube app was missing after flashing and also flashing the latest GAPPS. However I just downloaded that again from the market.

For a change I decided to try the KANG build (CM9) latest version.

To be frank I have found no real appreciable difference in using CM9 over that of the EOS nightlies.

I did not expect to find that much of a difference and so I do not think that it is worth changing from the EOS builds.

I will go back to the EOS nightlies.
