Motorstorm was good apart from the lack of features out of the box. The online was a mess though, I spent longer trying to get into a game then playing it.

Apart from the CGI crap in the OPs Motorstorm video all I took from it was; more sixaxis nonsense & what it should have been first time round. It's already on the rental list anyhoo.

I'll definitely be checking out this Baja game

Its not just another dirt racer, they've really done something new with the way the races work.

Motorstorm was just a racer on dirt, Baja has a whole new strategy to the racing, should be great fun!

Why is that?

I guess because it is hoped Motorstorm Pacific Rift will implement the changes that were needed in Motorstorm. Motorstorm wasn't a bad game in my opinion but it did have some niggling issues for me. Firstly, the slow vehicle selection process. Secondly, the length of time it took to get into a game. Thirdly, no splitscreen. Baja to me just looks poor. Even the physics don't look that good to me (based upon what I have seen).

The vehicles are displayed as pictures now instead of 3d models when picking your ride. Its a lot faster. splitscreen has also been confirmed, up to 4 players I believe.

The game will support 16-player online play and 4-player split-screen, offline play. Sony is also said to be "pushing" to make the game's web services integrated with the game in the same manner as SingStar.

MONSTER TRUCKS! :D

The game will move away from the desert environments of the original title and relocate itself in "a lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation"; also included will be monster trucks and four-player split-screen capability. Monster trucks will be able to ride over cars, break most vegetation, and destroy structures. Custom music tracks within races will be available, and camera angles will be improved for crashes; vehicle damage will also be improved. Two new confirmed race terrains are mountain hillsides and caves.

The 16 tracks (compared to 8 tracks in the first game) will contain "thick mud, tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, choking volcanic clouds and searing lava pools". Another new feature in Motorstorm: Pacific Rift is the presence of water in the form of rivers and pools. Water also cools down the car's engine, which presents a whole line of new tactics; vehicles will slow down as they go through deep water, with buoyancy featuring for vehicles that venture into water too deep for that vehicle type.[1] Vegetation will fight back against the smaller vehicles and only the bigger vehicles will be able to go through

It's funny you should say that because I had an online game a few days ago and I can assure you that it is still there for certain race modes or whatever. But I did see the old style vehicle selection process, which surprised me when I saw it because I knew that it was supposed to have changed, and I am fully patched etc.

edit: This is for the original Motorstorm of course.

its only there if the host hasn't change the settings. Motorstorm is still my fav current gen off road arcade fun racing game even with its shortfalls, so cannot wait for no2.

Baja looks just like any other motorcross wannabe, probably fun for 5mins and doesn't look that good either although cannot really judge until played. Another game i'm looking forward to is PURE
