Mould and use by dates

Tbh I wouldn't have eaten any of the meat you were cooking if you tried to serve me mouldy bread!

Generally speaking I use best before as a guideline, and would happily eat cheese, yoghurt etc past the date.
Wouldn't eat any meats past the best before - particularly chicken, I tend to always cook on the day it is bought. I have had chicken smell rank well before the best before on several occasions.

It takes a lot for me to throw food away. On the whole I'll ignore use-by dates. The amount of free food I've taken off housemates' hands because something was a day over is incredible.

I've been away from work for almost a month and went to make a cup of tea yesterday. Still in the fridge was the last of a pint of semi-skimmed milk I bought at the start of April. Still fine. :) Just goes to show what a super-cold fridge can do.
