Why can I not hire peasants/recruits from villages? Am I missing something? My Warband strategy was essentially hiring from villages to cut costs.
I bought Warband and fire & sword in the steam sale at the weekend, should I play Warband first or does it not matter really?
No you just don't get option to hire men from villages at the start of the game even when you're on your own. Leadership doesn't matter at that point.

That depends on you to a certain extent. Do you prefer swords, pikes and archery or would you like to add early musketry to that list? I'm hearing that the campaigns run along the same kinda lines.

I think I will try warband first and try and master swords, pikes and archery before I try guns![]()
Guns are fun, but to an extent. I haven't found a good implementation (mod) for guns in warband yet, but in original there was a really amazingly fun mod. I prefer mele anyway, kill way more then if you had a gun. Though a bow is very high on kill ratio it also needs silly investment in points and skills to make it worth while.
. Nothing says that you have to stick to a certain playing style at all. Horse archer is very easy to play at the start, but simply harder to transition to a commander character later on due to stat investment required for archery to be really good (one shot one kill sort of thing). For practice, just save before fights and try out builds that sound fun as thats the whole point of the game.
