Mount Snowdon

Go for the Ranger Path. It's a great route and a good introduction for the girlfriend and dog. It'll be easier on the dog's paws than some of the other routes too - a long walk on rock and slate ain't great for their feet.

Oh, and bring an extendible lead and harness for the dog. There are sheep and sheer drops. Never a great combination - probably best to put him on the lead around either.

Yes will be keeping an eye on her feet and she'll be on a harness with short or long lead at all times.

Live quite close by, virtually no experience (I don't even know all the routes, although I know there are more than two).

Llanberis path is easy although busy, during Winter there's a fatally dangerous section along the railtrack that turns icy. For a quieter route you can also start off in Llanberis (somehwere near the SPAR shop I seem to remember) and eventually join up with the Rangers path (so much quieter and relatively easy!)

However, Crib Goch is horrendous for a novice, especially if you're scared of heights like I am - it 'sneaks' up on you very quickly on due to the exposure, and the fear can be very debilitating. I would avoid.

Today is a cracking day round here, I wish I had planned on some ascent...:o

Annoying all the places in llanberris are fully booked on bank Holliday weekend, unsurprising but annoying.
Want to try tryfan now and do the miners route as only one other than crib goch, I haven't done and a night summit.

Did it once as a kid with parents it was utterly knackering. Its not a strenuous climb its just a very, very long way. We had walk a couple miles before we even got to the foot of the mountain. Check the weather forecast before you go its not much fun climbing all that way and finding you can't see your hand in front of your face due to fog, and it gets foggy a lot. n.b. the welsh name for it Eryri (e-ri-ree) "the home of the eagles" so might please the locals more if you refer to it as that.

Skip Snowdon, do Tryfan!

Camp at one of the camp sites at the bottom of Tryfan, perfect for an early morning start on the ridge! :D

I've just slept in the car in one of the lay-bys on the A5 near Tryfan. :D

We went up in the snow and ice, it was stunning, I love the little trench like climbs you can make up it with the slabs of rock forming walls on you. We then headed on to. Glydyr Fach where we unknowingly wandered off the main route and I ended up slipping down a fair way of the side on sheet ice. Scary but exciting!

Take the advice from the experienced people here but don't under estimate Snowdon for the average bod not used to anything more than a stroll to the shops. If you're not fit imagine walking up a set of stairs for 3 hours, and if it's rainy imagine doing the same whilst someone hoses you down constantly.

Not difficult or dangerous but still a significant challenge if you're not used to it.

I was once in training for the three peaks and used Snowdon for two or three weeks before to get my legs going. One time I was seated at the summit in a nice little hollow eating some boiled eggs and a coach party arrived. It was a nice day (in the car park) but at the top, a little raw and damp.
One couple, he in jeans and trainers, she in sari and sandals slumped down near to me totally wrecked. Luckily I had an abundance of chocolate and distributed it together with some pithy advice on clothing and footgear. I walked back down with them, all in all a good day.

Tryfan with a dog on a lead is not easy. Although a striking mountain from the lake. The glyders on their own or starting with Y Garn is nice and fairly dog friendly but a bit rocky in places. You can take a nice photo on Cantilever rock :)
