Mountain Biking

I think the auction link has been passed around every MTB group i know.

With the fees and VAT some of the ebikes are already to highly priced.

The fact YT is being liquidated in the UK does not bode well. I was looking at buying a used Tues. But i wont touch a YT now for a long while.

Looks like a saracen myst will have sate my DH need. The Atherton is just a bit too pricey for me for the spec.

Yeh, nothing worth me buying now unfortunately.

I was on the verge of buying a Jeffsy when they had a sale the week before all the problems were announced. Glad I didn't now with the way they've screwed a lot of people.

Atherton just released their cranks.
150mm upwards in 2.5mm steps.
Axle either 28.99mm or 30mm, and 52mm, 55mm and 58mm lengths.
SRAM 8 bolt direct mount.
£840 as well doesn't seem terrible compared to Eewings

The Eewings price is irrelevant, Atherton price is still nearly 3x the price of XTR's.. I just thought it was a bonkers price!
They aren't comparable to XTR?

Bit like saying a Ferrari is a nuts price it's 10x the price of a Fiesta.

I'm just waiting to here on the weight of them, if they weight just as much as some alloy cranks I won't be bothering, I'll get some Hope Carbon cranks instead.

They aren't in the same comparison brackets that's why, cranks are cranks. £850 cranks aren't going to make you any better of a rider, fully understandable if your riding competively and it's for weight saving purposes though. Tiny tiny marginal gains though.

But even the pros all run xt/zee whatever without any major issues. Now don't get my wrong have I had a set of xts fail on me, but I got a new set of deore for like £70 which does 99% of a set at 10* the price.

Yes because it's all about making you a better rider. Can it not also be the enjoyment of building bikes as well with nice and different parts. I also like supporting a UK company. If what you say were true we'd all pretty much have the same bikes with the same parts.

Oh absolutely, everyone can spend money however they like.

Not really, I just don't think these expensive cranks are that much better than anything else.

I was hoping there would be some YT DH bikes - sadly nothing.

My son wants a DH bike and I've been looking around.
I knew the Atherton bike range existed and this would be my go to choice, but the prices are a bit punchy and one of the main benefits is the exact sizing (12 size choices), which for a younger rider growing quickly isn't something which provides much benefit.

He follows Matt Jones (Marin rider) so will probably surprise him with a Marin Quake, which comes with a good out of the box spec for £4.6k

I tested the S.200 and looked at the Quake. Quake is only 180mm Travel

I went for a Saracen Myst. Such good value for the kit level. I went for the Team knowing im the type who will upgrade and not wanting the pink colorway.

Its in the shop atm being invisiframed. Hopefully have it back for a test ride on the 9th and a trip to Dyfi on the 23rd.

The Quake is 180mm rear travel and 200mm front travel
yeah, not sure why they did that. Have you looked at the myst. I couldn't justify the Atherton premium when the full spec Team version with the sweet paint job was £5.5k and the pro version £3.5k. most other DH rigs with similar spec were easily £1.5-2k more.

I'm not racing, this will be my bike park bike and hopefully going to Morzine in July.
