Hi, in need of some help/advice.

I want to mount a 2nd SATA hdd but have a small problem.

My case is a Gigabyte 3d Aurora which was second hand. It uses tool-less drive rails (plastic thingy which clips around the drive) but i only have one which is occupied with my master drive.

Any ideas?

Cheers :D

If you don't move the computer around much it doesn't need to be fixed in place. It's better if it is of course, but don't let that stop you installing one. I have 2 loose drives right now, I don't have any long SATA cables that will reach from the bottom of the case up to the SATA sockets (Lia Li Up-side-down case where the motherboard is mounted wrong way up!) Anyway, I put 4 screws in the bottom of the drive and slipped some rubber gromets over them - makes nice non-slip 'feet' for it to stand on. Placed in the 5-1/4" bay they'll be fine until I can be arsed getting some longer cables...

Cheers guys, for now i think ill do as ChrisLX200 said and have it loose. Wasnt sure if it would be an issue.

I hardly ever move my case so should be sound.

This is what I meant by putting screws in the bottom of the drive...

That's quite a nifty way of doing it. Laying the hard drive flat on the bottom of the case isn't a good idea, but those feet should at least stop some of the heat build up.

Here is another basic question, what is the run command for xp to recognise the new drive.

(Never done this before if you cant tell)

:p

You want to go into disk administration. I can't remember exactly how, it wasn't too difficult to find. It's not a run command though.
