I've bought a 32" LCD for our kitchen and would like to mount it on a plasterboard wall. The weight of the TV is 8.1kg. Do i need to mount it to the v vertical studs as I have read, or is it light enough for some plasterboard fixings?

Secondly, i'm planning on drilling a hole top and bottom and feeding some string through to pull the wires through - does this sound feasable?

Well I'm no expert but I don't even trust hanging picture frames into plasterboard (Well I do because I have to) If I was mounting a TV I would be sure to have some sort of support from screwing into something solid.

Maybe you can, I just wouldn't be happy myself with it if it were mine. However see if anyone else has anymore input though as I haven't mounted my own, just seen what friends have done etc. Which usually consisted of a bit of MDF straddling 2 studs at least screwed in and then the TV bracket mounted on that.

Is it just plasterboard or is there something like breeze block etc behind?.

Ive got mine secured using anchor bolts but these go into the plasterboard and then into the breeze block behind.

I hung my 40" Sony on a plasterboard wall, but it did back on to an external wall. Got some massive anchor bolts from B&Q with expand once behind the plasterboard. I put 10 in total and there is no chance it will fall off.

If you are hanging on an internal wall then its more tricky. If you can get the bolts through the wood then it will secure but its likely the wooden uprights will be too far apart.

As for the wiring of your speakers, I also did this at the same time. Was somewhat tricky and you will need some fibreclass rods as they bend and are very rigid (simply tape the wire around it). All i did was drill a hole for the wire but angle the drill in the direction the wire will go as its easier to fit through. I hit loads of dot and dab. Took me about 6 hours to get 3 cables through but was worth it in th end

If you have a fixed bracket that sits back against the wall, by than I mean one that isn't on an arm, you'll be fine.

I would recommend using a bracket that has a large surface area, don't use a bracket designed to be screwed into a stud as the fixings will be too close together. Unless you have a stud to use?

I would recommend using molly bolts and the proper insertion tool (about £5-£10 from screwfix). Waste one fixing by seeing how they work before you put one in the wall as you can over tighten them.

With regards to dropping cables in the wall. It depends on if you have any noggins in the way, these are the horizontal pieces of stud work. If you do you'll have to drill a couple of access holes and then patch up the wall.

What I've done in the past is drill a 50-75mm hole behind the tv to have a look inside the wall, I have some fibre glass rods I can prod about inside the wall too. If the hole is no good then you can patch it in, doesn't have to be neat as you can cover it with the bracket.

Hope this helps, any more questions then fire away!

Another way is to mount a sheet of 18mm MDF to the wall into the joists (wooden vertical studs) and then mount the LCD bracket onto the MDF.
Obviously you will need to paint the MDF. I used a router to smooth and round off the edges. I mounted a heavy 50" Plasma screen in the bedroom this way.

If you want a secure mounting you'll need to fix it to the studs. I've put mine up like that with big plasterboard fixings in-between and touch wood all has been fine.

I have seen a 65" samsung hung on a plasterboard wall with 2 toggle-type fixings.
It was using the wire picture frame type samsung bracket.
Hasnt fallen down yet!
