Hi

So Ive got myself a lovely new KDL-55HX853 3D TV. Absolutely amazing picture quality on this bad boy :)

I want to mount it on the wall which is a plasterboard wall and so is a little more difficult to do but can be done.

I'm just wondering if anybody has ever used the cheaper mounting brackets available all over the web. The genuine ones (especially Sony ones) can be almost £200.

Now, it being a plasterboard wall upon which I shall mount the TV, I really do want the bracket to be sturdy and reliable. TV cost me €1500 (£1300) and the last thing I need is the bloody thing falling off the plasterboard wall(built in the late 1970's) and smashing into all the home entertainment equipment below it. That would be disastrous!!

So are the cheaper brackets just as good/reliable?

Would you put your trust in one, with all that gear at stake?

It's not the bracket that will make or break the install; it's the fixings and how you use them. Even the £200 Sony bracket will fail if installed by Gumby the bodger.

Ah yes, I will be fixing the bracket to the wall where the batons/studs lie behind the plasterboard.

What are the correct type of fixings?

I'd imagine that you wouldn't be aboe to fix all screw points into a single stud, so you should get those heavy load plasterboard wall plugs. You can get a variety of different types such as those butterfly ones that expand behind the wall and clamp on, but if you are using those ones where you screw them into the wall, I recommend that you pre-drill a hole before driving them in with a screwdriver.

I'd make sure that you get at least 2 anchor points on your stud though.

To get a better response you are probably best to post this in the Home and Garden sub-forum.
