I have just taken delivery of this

I am thinking of mounting it to the wall AND the ceiling for extra security.

The fastening plate at either end of the screen has 1 hole for ceiling mounting and 2 holes for wall mounting. I live on the top floor of my block with access to the loft area but Im not sure if where I need the screen mounted will fall in line with the ceiling joists? Also my neighbours living room is on the other side of the wall I will be mounting the screen

Mounting to the wall and the ceiling is overkill.

Sods Law says that the end fixing points on this budget screen won't line up with the ceiling joists anyway, so you'll either end up putting a batten across the ceiling and fixing in to that or screwing in some kind of plasterboard toggle fixing in the the ceiling which isn't going to offer much strength when you start tugging on the screen to roll it down. You'd be better off fixing to the brick/stud wall instead.

If it's brick then there's at least 4" of brick between you and your neighbour. Drill in 1.5", put in some brown Rawl plugs, use appropriate sized screws topped with washers. If it's breezeblock then use something like SupaFix Breezeblock Plugs and the appropriate size screws with washers.

For a stud walls can be wood or metal studs. Find out what you're dealing with first then come back here with the info.

If the joists dont line in the ceiling I may just use length of timber between the joist and fasten it to that. One bolt on either side would be secure enough I presume?

Iv been up the loft today for a look and it seems the joist does run where I need it to (hopefully) Whats the best way to secure the screen to the joist?

If you can be sure of hitting the centre line of the joist (and you have a socket set to drive them) then self tapping coach screws are ideal. The heads are big enough that you don't need to mess about with washers.

Got the screen mounted securely. Pulled it down to test it out and now I cant for the life of me get it to retract back into the casing :-( :-(

After plenty of F'n & Jeff'n I managed to get it up (thats what she said)

I think there must be a knack to it?
